Real Deal, can I ask, what kind of camera have you been using to take these shots? I'm presuming you are using a long lens to capture the fight pictures?

At the time i was using a canon 305d with a EF 24-70 but i have upgraded to a Canon 1D mark2 now. this was my first card using it

and i used it in wales this week also.

Getting VERY excited about this one, 3 days left to go and it's looking solid 8)


My money has to be on Froch. It should be a commanding performance from the Cobra, but he's loading up with his punches more and more and that could let Dodson in to make it tough. Either way Froch wins the Lonsdale belt outright.

Are you using the same lens on the 1D Real Deal?

I'm gonna take my first boxing photos after Christmas with a Canon 70-300 USM IS and will try it from the balcony at the York Hall. I hope the lighting won't be a problem. I'll post them up here after I do it.

I'm looking forward to this one as well it should be a great atmophere on the night. With this being a real grudge match anything could happen so it's important for both fighters to remain focused and not walk into a 'silly shot'.

Tony has a good chance of an upset here but if I was a betting man their repective track records lead me to go for Froch in around 6-8 rounds TKO.

Thanks real, do you think it's going to be a problem with the lighting using the 70-300 lens with f/stop 4 at 70 going to 5.5 at 300?

judging by the pictures. i think he was using a flash as well.

Thanks for that. The action shots are good but the pictures are very grainy. I wonder what type of lens he used or maybe they just look like that from the file size being reduced for upload.

Good point. Really looking forward to this now and since Tony posts on here I'll have to be cheering him on. I think Froch takes it though by late stoppage.

Well I haven't heard a peep out of either camp since the courtroom press conference. Doesn't seem as though the promoters are doing a great job though. Nothing about it on BBN either and this fight is only three days away.

Froch will win. He might have to take a few to do it, but he'll win none-the-less. I wish I could see some other outcome, but I really can't, even if Dodson could draw Froch into a real war (and there's every chance he can) the champion has a bigger punch and a better chin. Tough night for Tony.

Yes it would be due to us reducing the size otherwise we'd eat up all of the bandwidth on the site!

Christ, that's some investment, the 1-d costs a bomb doesn't it?

I'm looking at buying the EOS 450 myself, and at some point will look at taking some pictures at fights probably next year, is that likely to be adequate?

Do you mean the 400D James? The camera would be sufficient, that's what I have. The most important thing is your lens. The standard kit lens is poor on the Canon. I've been very happy with how my pictures have come out with the 400D. Lenses are expensive though. Mine are on the cheap side but still cost £280 for a 17-70 and £380 for a 70-300 with IS. Adding the camera body at £500 and memory cards, filters, etc. it all adds up quickly. Let me know at the time when you are looking for lenses cause I did quite a bit of research into them and made sure I got the best available for my budget. I also know a fair bit about where to get best prices etc.

I've seen an ebay deal which looks pretty good from Hong Kong, body, 18-55 mm lens, 2 gb cf card, remote, grip, eyecup, extra battery, and car charger kit.

Bear in mind, I know NOTHING about photography, other than I can take decent pictures with my point and click, I'm a complete novice.

Be very careful with Hong Kong deals. With Canon you won't get a local guarantee with the camera. I know some of the ebay sellers claim to have a contact in the UK who you can return to but don't know how well that works. Also, the memory cards are 90% counterfeit online, particularly the Sandisk Ultra II and Extreme cards. I would not buy them from anywhere on Ebay. There are lots of stories of people being sold fakes, leaving positive feedback, and then only realising later that something is up with their card. Just be cautious with it. Also look out for duty charges of 17.5% being added on delivery. Read all small print. I am relatively new to SLRs too but have done a sh1t load of research before buying. I bought my camera body online from a UK company, one lens off Pixmania and the other from an ebay seller, but outside of ebay (to get a cheaper rate). The counterfeit non-brand batteries are fine and much better than splashing out for a Canon brand.

I meant with Canon you only get a local guarantee with the camera. Your Canon guarantee will be for HK, not international so you rely on the seller and their personal guarantees.

Right, thanks for the tip. I feel naturally uneasy about buying on-line from somewhere that far away. In an ideal world I like to buy from a shop where you can go in and scream at shop assistants, but high street prices, despite Jessops internet price busting promise are exhorbitant.

so you would recommend buying the body and Lens seperately?

Thing is, at present, I don't even know what those numbers for lenses equate to, other than that a broader range of numbers means a wider range of zooms.

I'll probably PM you for some advice in the new year when I splash out and finally buy a digital SLR.

Don't think Froch will be able to out muscle Dodson.

Yeah PM me whenever you want some info on it. Jessops are very expensive, I've not used them for anything. I will be going to York Hall as early as possible in the new year so if you want to see any of the lenses or the camera in use before you buy one, I'll have it there with me.[/img]
