Who was the best of these five great champs:

Oscar
Pea
Mosley
Pryor
Mayweather Junior

At 140lbs on their best night I say Mosley has the best chance of them all to beat each fighter. Oscar second, Mayweather third, Pryor 4th and Pea last. Close but that's how I'd see it. Over 12 rds

Coming in a distant 5th is Aaron Pryor.

I agree... i think alot of people slept on Shane -- he did better than Trinidad did against DeLaHoya and Winky Wright. Not always a spectacular guy to watch- but very possibly the best of the group you mentioned after that i'd go with Oscar Pea Pryor and Floyd

A past-prime Whitaker fought an even fight with a prime Oscar. He should be ranked in front of Oscar

Are you joking?
I would put Pryor 2nd just below Whitaker.

Yeah I know a lot of people who are impressed with him......I just think the theory that he is that good has a lot of holes in it....But Jaclem has told me I"m not to discuss the subject any longer....So I must take a vow of near silence on the subject.

Top three is close.

1 Oscar
2 Sweat Pea
3 Mosley
4 PBF
5 Pryor

PBF may still move up higher.

..dammit...boxbuzz knows perfectly well that i have not told him to stop commenting on pryor....it's just the opposite....i expect him to continue correctly assessing pryor now that i have retired from doing so.

Personally I think the 5 guys are all so damn good in their own way. They are the perfect mix of excellence. It's so hard to separate them amd from what I've seen I just think Mosley's blend of speed and power will see him being the toughest to beat. Whitaker had speed and elusiveness, but against these guys, those tactics will not necessarily win you the fight because the other four had such speed and weren't all that easy to nail.

Pryor has the weakest defence of the three, best stamina and possibly hardest hitter. But all mentioned have great chins and will take Pryors best and maybe outfox him.

Oscar is amazing at his best, simple as that and Mayweather is also I feel a faster and trickier version of Pea.

Only one othe fighter of the last 30 years beats all these guys at 140lbs and that's Duran

>>>1 Oscar 2 Sweat Pea 3 Mosley 4 PBF 5 Pryor<<<

Thats about how I see it as well, though I would switch Mosley and Pryor!

Jeeze, how can anyone rate PBF over Pryor at 140???... just on the strength of his win over Gatti??? eh?.... I realise some think Pryor was overrated but my feeling is that he has become largely underrated on this board... the man was an outstanding fighter... these other guys never fought anyone that came close to him at 140 and I think he would have been too strong and too relentless for all the guys on that list... and remember he could box too when he felt like it...

1. Pryor
2. Sweet Pea
3. Oscar
4. PBF
5. Mosely

Silkov...I agree with you on many things....but I am now concerned that you have taken a bite from some suspect British Beef......this is how it begins....rating Pryor over Whitaker coud be a first sign of the madness.

I dont see sweet pea holding Pryor off.... a swaming non-stop fighter like Pryor is the style which would beat Whitaker imo... quite a sane analysis I feel... 8) :TU: and by the way I never touch beef!... bad nasty stuff! :x :x :x

Totally ignores the fact that in his prime, Whitaker was virtually untouchable and hardly lost a round, with no exaggeration. Who ever put him in danger? He made the best of the time look like amateurs! Even if he couldn't do that with his non-contemporaries, it's an indication he would at least be able to out-point them, if not out-class as he usually did.

He never fought anyone quite like Pryor though did he and swarming fighters like Pryor often give sweet boxers problems... and sweet pea didnt have the power to hold Pryor off either... Pryor on points or late stoppage imo....

"What time is it?...HAWK TIME!"...can't imagine Pryor not providing a highly competitive fight against everyone else listed here...overrated or underrated...I still like Whitaker #1 though...then Pryor#2...

It pains me to make an example of you, However you have forced my hand on this subject. I am passing around a petition to have your Science License revoked.

That would leave me no recourse but to bring the "What time is it...HAWK TIME!" entourage to your house at 3:00 in the morning...

Though I rate Pryor low, I believe he to be he toughest and possibly hardest hitting. But against a peak Oscar and Mosley I see their speed and output being too much for him. Pryor threw tons of shots and some were at times aimless swings. These two threw greasy fast and hard accurate shots in great volume too, plus they both had very good defenses. Pryor was hit a lot easier than both these guys. Pryor has the best chance to beat a Mayweather or Pea, but I back Oscar and Mosley against him

If Oscar and Pea are rated so highly...........where does that leave Tito , who beat them both , at 147 lb I believe .

Posted: 29 Nov 2006, 05:00
by walshb
Thought Tito beat both I see him being more a natural welter/junior middle than any of these guys who were all at most 10 stone fighters.
I still think Oscar beat Tito and basically threw away 3 rds at the end.
He handled Tito and made him look amateurish at times.

Also when Pea lost to Tito he was 35 years old and it was his second to last fight. No offense to Tito fans but it would unfair to rank him over Pea based soley on that fight.
