BOXING MONTHLY: DISTASTEFUL OR F#CKING OUT OF ORDER?

I was pretty disgusted to open up BM yesterday and see the corpse of Trevor Berbick laid out before my eyes with his head gaping wide open and face down in a pool of blood.

Exactly what is the justification of printing this snuff pic & how does it add to an obituary of Trevor Berbick? Would a shot of Berbick beating up Pinklon Thomas have been a bit more fitting?

Dont want to sound too serious or anything but regardless of what you thought of Berbick this is someones dad, brother, son and reprinting this image is not only disturbing in the extreme its f#cking disrespectful. If this was a relative of mine i'd be very pissed off at Glyn Leach right now.

I'm open minded on the issue anyway.

It was Houston's article though.

Houstons just a writer, not the editor though. Thats Leach.

Hopefully when Leach dies Boxing Monthly can write him an obiturary complete with a snap of him laid out naked on the morgue slab with a surgeon cutting him wide open with a scalpel, so he can suffer the humiliation he has accorded Trevor Berbick.

Not seen the offending pic, but I must say, does sound a bit unneccasarily gruesome, especially considering that there's a lot of younger people reading that magazine. I was collcting the Ring Magazine when I was 10, and certainly wouldn't have expected to have seen a picture of a chopped up human being.

That was a very gruesome pic, shame on the editors for letting that get through.

maybe it will boost sales. perhaps they should've put it on the cover.

Ha ha another controversy. Boxing News are already having a saga going on in the letters page regarding the "Jaw Dropper" front cover after Abraham-Miranda!

I read about it on these pages first and, i have to admit, i was expecting some sort of explanation from the magazine. If you print a picture like that I think it has to be justified. The fact that they did not explain why they used it-just put it there for morbid intruige-is what i found tasteless.

I must confess i was quite shocked when i turned the page to see that staring back at me. Good article by Houston as usual though, best writer around.

P.S. Can't really stand Ron Borges articles, don't know why they have started using this poor writer for.

Yes, it shocked me too. Surely that was the point?

Houston is a top writer, really knows his apples. I've always been a Farhood fan too.

Regardless of what you thought of Berbick, and Glyn Leach obviously thought very little of him, the Berbick family -including children- are reading through many boxing magazines and websites and you should imagine how you would feel for some stranger to print up a picture of your own old mans corpse for other peoples kicks. If i was Leroy Berbick or some of his other family in London i would want to show up at Glyns office and rip his throat out.

Hope Leach pays for this.

did you see the blog on thesweetscience.com - by Michael Woods - which slammed Berbick? Berbick's daughter then ripped him on the replies bit, beneath the article.

Very tasteless imo, the sort of thing you would expect from the gutter press like the SUN... whatever his faults Berbick was a very decent and brave fighter and deserves respect for that... it amuses me that many of the people who slam Berbick as a person are often the same people who think Tyson is some kind of a saint... anyway, absolutely no need for this type of thing and I'll be making sure that I dont buy a copy... hopefully their sales for this edition will go down.....
