Must make Lennox Lewis want to come out of retirement, but he's a poor second when it comes to talking about one's self in the third person.

James McDonnell salutes Bernard Hopkins for his incredible talent in this regard, it makes James McDonnell wish he were someone else than James McDonnell....almost.

Remainds me of the Simpson's epiode where they are trying to pick a new Republican candidate and Bob Dole (famous for speaking in the third person) is at the meeting

The Simpsons - the best TV show ever?

Could it be coincidence that the best operatives of third person speaking over the last few years have been the best fighters? Lewis, Mayweather, Jones, and now Hopkins.

And also, why does it seem to be restricted almost solely to boxing? You rarely hear this crap from our footballers, rugby players, or cricketers.

I have been following this trend for years. For me the king is Roy Jones Junior, for his ability to talk about two versions of himelf in the third person. - Roy Jones Junior, or his darker side RJ.

I can't find the exact words, butI was in a bar in Vegas the day before the Ruiz fight, watching a Jones interview. he said (this is from memory so not quite verbatim). "I don't know whether Roy Jones or RJ is going to turn up tonight".

In the same interview he held his fists up to the camera and said"These boys want to be WBA heavyweightr champion of the world". He genuinely sounded as though his fists had a distinct personality.

Loynesy often goes through stages talking about himself in the third person. One should always have one's voicemail in the third person.

"you've reached the voicemail of "X". "X" isn't here right now, but if you leave a message for him, he will call you back as soon as possible"

Please don't compare the boring-as-hell Hopkins, a self proclaimed legend whose specialism is beating up on welterweights, to the great Lennox Lewis.

Ricky Hatton is currently our P4P of refering to himself in the 3rd person. Did Hamed, Benn, Eubank do so or is it a more modern thing? Could promters be advising fighters to refer to themselves in the 3rd person - if the average fan who doesnt know who BHOPs/Hatton etc are they are morelikely to remember the name if it is repeated to them 20 times.
