The truth is, we will never know, the figures that get bandied around are always unreliable, even the official ones, most fighters don't seem to want their earnings being advertised, and without knowing what cut of PPV monies a fighter is on, calculating the final purse is easier said than done.

Having said that, it's hard to see where all the money would have come from to support that. I forget what the Arena in Boston held, but I seem to remember the gate was about 6000. How many PPV buys were there, maybe 500,000 including both countries, was it PPV in the states, can't remember.

Pretty sure it wasn't PPV in the US James. Collazo probably didnt make much of the pie - probably took 300k or less. I doubt it did many PPVs over here to be honest though, we only have a 60million population so even if Hatton was equally as popular here as DLH was in the US (which hes not) he'd be making 150k buys at £20 each. That would equate to £3m. Maybe HBO pay £1m or so for the TV rights. So its possible but Hobson and co are making a loss off this though.

The only reason Hattons well paid is because hes fighting opponents who don't demand a big share of the revenues. Thats why fights with PBF, Cotto and possibly Castillo are unlikely to happen.

After reading the interview with Ricky & Kerry, my thoughts are confirmed: Kerry Kayes is a man with great knowledge. I firmly believe he's a massive asset to the Hatton camp. I also feel Ricky would have difficulty in making the weight if Kerry was not on board. Billy Graham has stated in previous interviews that before Ricky met Kerry, he was struggling to make 140lbs.

I know Billy is the trainer, he's the one who puts the plan together etc, shaarpens Ricky up etc, but Kerry gets Ricky into solid condition i.e. strength training, good diet etc.

I heard it was 6 mil US plus some fight revenue. Collazo got 500K.

That sounds like a lot and I doubt it's accurate. It wasn't ppv in the US and top American based fighters have made less than that when fighting on ppv over there. In saying that though the fight was ppv here, so maybe that was enough for Hatton to get a paycheck that big.

Cheers Andy, I do not know a lot about Mackie to be honest.

Kerry is the man when it come sto this type of thing, loads of fighters who have had problems in the past and emaciated themselves to make weight have spoken to him and seen a change. They can still eat well and more importantly can be drinking water the night before a weigh-in and still hit the weight.

When I first met him I was a confessed sceptic about weight guys involvement in boxing but he took him time showing me the pluses and how he goes about his business. It also sounds a cliche but he is a decent guy and knows how to treat people, plus he hails from Gorton also

There were a few more things to put in but I had one-eye on space. Jamie Moore was there that day and he was laughing at the weight questions and expressing surprise that some poor sod (me) was still asking them.

I only asked cos Shilestone is the Guy who gets the credit for Jones Jr, Hopkins, and Michael Spinks among others for bulking up on muscle as opposed to weight only. I was wondering if after the Collazo in 7 weeks debacle. if Kerry might wanna check out Mackie's MO if RH decides to go to Welter again. Especially after he recently said he'd only need 4 weeks to take B Hop from Light Heavy to Heavy.

Very good piece that Terence. It shows that having a good nutritionist in a fighter's camp is very important (if not essential) nowadays.

The interview confirmed a lot of what I instinctively thought about Hatton in between fights which I posted some time ago when the issue about him letting himself go came up.

Hatton seems to be a down to earth lad who has boxed since he was a kid and has achieved a lot. The prolonged and constant tedium and monotony of training and keeping a check on weight over a lengthy career can definately take the edge off a fighter, leading to the kind of burnout that Kerry had seen in the bodybuilding world.

Watching family and friends out and about living normal lives whilst being constantly in the gym with nothing specifically to train for will make any balanced person go stale and demotivated.

Hatton seems to be a well balanced type of person who needs to 'switch off', and given that he is only fighting a 2/3 times a year this keeps him mentally fresh for the next training camp.

My, my, I should probably shy away from your insightful yet sparse comments but fighters generally do get hit over the course of twelve rounds. The crux is that Hatton kept a high workrate throughout the fight and this is what won him the bout despite getting caught with right hook counters in a fight against a big, strong WW.

WRONG, Hattons win was questionable to say the least and at best the flash knockdown in the first round won him that fight, you must be blind as well as stupid if you count wrestling as workrate.

Children Children, your both right. Hatton has got a high workrate but it is fading, he isnt as good as he used to be and I doubt hes quite as fit as he used to be.

He fought an even fight against Collazo, which could have gone to Collazo but Ricky probably edged it.

Technically the Maussa fight was PPV but it was only on for $15 compared to the usual $50 shows

No. Hatton beat my favorite fighter in Kostya Tszyu and if anything that should give me an axe to grind. Especially when people say he did it by wrestling, I was not one of them, he won fair and square.

My missus thinks Hatton can do no wrong and has thought that for a good few years.

I feel that his work-rate for Collazo was acceptable for the WW division and you must admit that it won him the fight.

And i admit nothing, i watched the Collazo fight twice and Hatton was damn lucky to walk away with the decision....if he wasn't the so called name figher it could well have been different.

Also i went to the Zoo fight and watched it later on T.V i have also seen Hatton live any other times and he fights with the skills of a rapist.

Can't wait to see your boy get KTFO as soon as he has to take on one of the big boys.

Is Simpsons one of those half witted pricks that thinks when Hatton brawls and fights on the inside it is wrestling, but when Hopkins used to do it to smaller guys than him, it was some wonderful tactic?
