I know we've argued (sorry, discussed) this before.

Now that Sheffield is home to the ABA, does this strengthen its claim to be the capital of British boxing?

Where would you say is the best boxing place to be in the UK at the moment?

I wouldn't like to comment on small venues , but if you're talking about somewhere to stage a big fight you can't beat Manchester .

Similarly , I suspect their talent pool of fighters is possibly the best outside of London .

My heart says Birmingham.

My head says Manchester.

In Amateur Boxing they like to think Liverpool is.

I'd go with Nick. In terms of the sports popularity within the city, the amount of decent prospects, and the amount of more established names (both domestically, and internationally) that come from the city (or the immidiate surrounding area) then it's hard to go against Manchester.

Let's think about champions though.

Sheffield has Woods and Witter - two world champs.

Hatton doesn't box in Manchester anymore, does he?

Why did they decide to move the ABA's?

You cannot beat the York Hall.

I'd still like to see London as the Capital of British boxing, cause venues like Ally Pally, York Hall etc (I love it when boxing takes place at the Albert Hall) really do have the best atmosphere.

I'm sure the Amateurs would much rather the fights in the York Hall, with all its traditions.

Now its been done up, it seems odd that they have moved it.... unless I have missed something.

I dont dissagree with you. It Would make sense to hold the Tournament there instead of London. You would probaly get a much bigger crowd.

Indeed they are, I shall be attending.

Never really followed the amateur scene, will be interesting to see what sort of crowd is there. I suspect the majority will be friends, family and affiliates of the local ABC's and ABA grandees. Hey, that rhymes.

I think Ian is referring to the administrative centre of the ABA, rather than the finals themselves.

They were based at Crystal palace before.

The truth of the matter is, that London, for a city of it's size, has very few boxers compared to Sheffield, Manchester, and probably Birmingham.

Yes, the ABA is now based at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield - not just the admin but training camps and development, I believe.

I didn't mean the finals.

Is it something to do with being born in Kent as opposed to moving to Kent or is it something to with the river medway and on which side you live on it?

Cheering on a fella called Tom Dallas.
He got to the final last year but got beat.He is fighting British number 1 David Price.
He fights out of St Marys,Chatham.
