Frankie Gavin is the best amateur IMO.

James Russan should be higher.

I think Neil Perkins is a tad overated, but up there.

Glad to see you have that overated (I thought he was the bomb, but always something missing) James Degale a bit futher down the pecking order.

I'd have to rate Calzaghe ahead of Hatton , and I'm not sure Harrison desrves to be so high .

Now, I couldn't possibly claim to know anything about the amateurs, so I can't dispute any of this list. But I have to ask, is Khalid Saeed worthy of a place on the list now? I've heard nothing but good things about him. His weight may count against him, certainly in this country. Is he a good prospect for 2008 or not? He appears to be a talented lad.

Fair enough, but for me Hatton has done a lot more in recent years to earn the top spot.

Scott Harrison is a World class fighter who holds the WBO World title, there are not many fighters ranked below him on the list that are considered to be World class or who have a World title, so I don't think that he could be ranked much lower in the British rankings than I have him.

Don't think Kelly warrants a Top 10 place now, sad to say.

There are a few fighters hovering around the top 10/15 who you would favour to win the EBU title. Eastman, Froch etc. Kelly you wouldn't any more given the nature of his defeat.

I only dropped Kelly a few places as I didn't want to have Eastman in my top 10, because there is a good chance he could lose his fight with Williams this month, and I didn't want him just popping in and out of my top 10.

ABA boxing-do you know what Sutherlands(IRE) eye is like now?
Last I heard of him his career was in doubt over an injury to his eye.

Good list ABA,although I would make a couple of changes(Gavin higher,Egan lower)it is'nt easy to rate so many fighters.

Thanks for the list ABA Boxing, certainly seems like there is some depth in the quality of amatuer boxing at the moment, hopefully it can keep getting the lottery funding.

I don't know enough about the am's , but the ABA final fights looked good this year IMO.

It was based on seniors & European & World Tournaments, so the likes of Fury, a good result at the juniors nothing to sing about in the Seniors a loss to Price in the ABA's, the others nothing at senior level outside of the country that i know of.

All are still amateurs if there not please let me know. So i can alter the European rankings.

Sutherland suffered an eye injury in a senior international with Russia last summer but is expected to return to competitive action at the National Senior Championships at the Stadium in Dublin in January/February 2007.

I wouldnt put any money on any of them, World Championships are before so this should give you an idea of the outcome.

Just the qualifing tournaments will be hard. To get into the Olympics and get past the 1st draw will be a miracle.
I dont like to knock the English boxers but reality is we are under average compared with the rest of Europe, Asia & the Cubans.

2012 will be our best chance ever, most likely a boxer at every weight, but the opposistion will be no easier to beat just more chances of a lucky draw.

By then none of the boxers in the list will be Amateur. Only my view though

Best bet will be on the British female boxers, the IOC have indicated that the female version of amateur boxing will make it's debut in the London Olympics in 2012

Froch was number 20 last month and I didn't think a win over Dodson warranted a 10 place climb up the rankings and into the top 10. If I had placed him higher before the Dodson fight then maybe I would have put him into the top 10.
