Just wondered who would come in at #1 in this category. Obviously; Tommy Burns, Max Schmeling, Jimmy Braddock and James Douglas can be ranked but any others...and who out out of all of them officially was the biggest underdog? I heard Tommy Burns was a 17/1 shot...

Buster Douglas vs. Tyson of course.. 42/1 was it? In the current scene, people are referring to Gavin Topp as a 26 or 28 to 1 dog against Sturm.

expug thought of this one from another thread so I thought I would borrow it and inject it here. Billy Backus defeated Jose Napoles on cuts. Backus was an unbeleivably big undergog in that fight.

Boxing is like the NFL if the opponents are truly good. Anything can happen which is why in the old days the VERY BEST fighters were not even given notice until they had a few losses.
This over grooming of "Bozo's with O's" is a very strange breeding ground for fierce "junkyard" records being carried around by lapdogs.
Can I get an amen here?

AMEN
Jesse Ferguson against Riddick Bowe was a huge underdog.
If there was any betting for the following bout then it would have to be among the biggest of odds for Emilio Hernandez versus Carlos Zarate in 1978. Hernandez was not even really a novice fighter and Zarate looked unbeatable, all-time great with a record of 50-0-0 (49 KO) going into that fight!
