How can the BBC justify hiring Kelvin Mckenzie?
The day after the Hillsborough disaster, which saw the death of 96 football fans, The Sun ran a full front page headline which read “THE TRUTH”. The article went on to describe how some fans had been picking the pockets of the dead and urinating on the police while they tried to revive the dead. Of course none of it was true at all. The whole event was captured by TV cameras and the official enquiry could find no evidence to back up the allegations. The Sun have subsequently apologised to the people of Liverpool for their reporting of the tragedy but there is a large scale boycott of the newspaper which still goes on today.
The editor of The Sun at that time was Kelvin Mckenzie. He has never apologised for his actions and, indeed, has gone on record saying that he would do the same again. There have been reports from former Sun employees that McKenzie came up with the whole story and was advised by everybody at the time not to run with it. However, as he had such power, he decided to print the page.
Now the BBC has decided to hire him to present some of their shows. If they were a private company they would be able to hire who they liked and would weigh up whether hiring him would be worth the consequences, with subsequent boycotting, complaints etc. The BBC are not a private company though and are responsible to listening to public opinion as they are funded entirely by the public.

Im not actualy a Liverpool fan, but I have a lot of mates that are, and agree that the story the sun carried that day was terrible, unfounded and the afterath was cold and heartless.

Signed. One of the few good things about the times we live in is the ever-decreasing readership of this heartless tabloid shite.

Was it you who posted this on the 606? Or is that a totally different Lenny Albert?

Two Lenny Albert's???
Yeah it was me, thought if I got those guys signing it as well it could make a difference. Never thought they would publish it though to be honest. Took me a while to find it as well, that 606 site is a mess.

It was a good move I reckon. There's over seven hundred more signatures than when I signed it yesterday. I don't know why the BBC would let you publish a link to a petition that's heavily critical of them though. Either they don't care or they are fans of free speech. I wonder which?
I thought that they'd cleaned 606 up. That's the first time I've been there in over two years, and it was so much worse than that before.

What really irks me about the likes of McKenzie, is the way they fuel the flames of hatred, without actually believing what they are saying themselves. Him and Richard Littlejohn, another cynical journalist, masquerarding as a 'man of the people' are both intelligent men, who peddle bile and filth as if it was their own opinion, merely in the interests of 'debate.' It is these assholes that prop up ill informed opinion by endorsing the views of the moronic majority in this country, who are not well educated or informed enough to understand the issues at hand.
I despite these cynical cold hearted scumbags.

I think this entry on wikipedia sums up what a loathsome tosspot this man really is, quite unbelievable that this man should have been entrusted to the helm of probably the single most influential newspaper in the UK, dangerous and incendiary jingoistic filth!

Actually reading that Wikipedia entry it's quite stunning.
I've always hated the Scum and the Mirror and really could never understand why people would even buy it but some of the details in that entry about his 'Gotcha' headline and then the outrageous lies about happened about Hillsborough, I think he should have done time for that personally.

You cannot really compare the Sun and the Mirror. The Mirror isn't a right wing facist arse rag, it's actually not bad for a red-top paper.
It's amazing how little protection the level of protection offered to the general populace there is in this country. The media watchdog in place, whose name I forget now, is a powerless body with no power to enforce anything, I think it's the press complaints commission. The average punter in the street, cannot afford to take a major national newspaper to court and they know that, so they are able to print half-truths, speculation and downright lies.

Really? I always though of them as the same, I think they both employed Piers Morgan at one stage or another for example..
Just one is left-wing (sort of) and one is right-wing (sort of), both utter drivel reporting on nonsensical bollox and contributing substantially to the decline of the national average IQ.
That said I've probably not even looked at a Mirror in 10 years, the Scum more recently because it's lying around in someones office or a garage waiting room or something like that....

The mirror changed about 5 years ago or so, though I think it's editorial policy has shifted back towards entertainment based triviality in the last couple, I think they had a change of editor again.

I have never been able to work out why it isn't manufactured with perforations every 6 inches, then you could use it for its true purpose. A comic for the true halfwit.

I have always considered the other pudendum you mention in your post as " the man with the back to front name " Richard Littlejohn = John Littledick. Only someone with a very small penis could be that bitter and twisted.
