Back in the mid to late 80's there was a fighter that was disqualified when the referree discovered that some of the stuffing had been removed from his gloves. I believe the fight was against Robin Blake and, if I remember right the boxer and his manager were suspended from boxing . Does anybody out there remember who that boxer and manager were?

Billy Collins (not Robin Blake)
Luis Resto
Panama Lewis

Billy Collin's face looked like it went through a meat grinder after the fight. I watched it on Top Rank if I remember right.

Also of note if I am remembering right, it was Panama Lewis who gave Aaron Pyor the "bottle" in his 1st fight with Alexis.....you know "not that one, the one I mixed". :TU:

Collins Father Billy Collins sr. shook hands with Resto after the fight and felt the missing padding in the gloves.
Lewis was convicted of tampering with restos gloves and also banned for life from the sport.
Im pretty sure he wound up back in other fighters corners later on though.I believe Resto was banned also. Not sure about him though.
The biggest tragedy was Collins career being ruined from the injuries and that leading to his early death as he really fell on hard times afterward.

Robin Blake, now there's a guy who got some serious free TV exposure. I'd say at least 8 of his fights were nationally televised on Sat-Sun. Not a great fighter, but his bouts were usually entertaining.

just a side note : Jeffrey Resto is either the son or nephew of Luis Resto. Luis' brother Jose also boxed.
