Well, admittedly, if they fight 3, 4 times - as Langford did with most opponents (although only the worthy ones) - in one fight Byrd may survive until round 2, if Langford takes it easy.

Langford would win, but lets be a little realisitc here. Langford had 15 recorded first round knockouts in 314 recorded fights. That is less than
5% of his fights. In less than 1 out of every 20 times Langford knocked a guy in the first round. Byrd was a very good defensive fighter. Byrd wasn't as good as Wills, Jeanettette, McVey etc. but he was certainly better than the average opponent that Langford fought. It would probably take Langford several rounds if he stopped Byrd at all.

Langford scored knockouts in less than half of his fights. The odds are that he wouldn't have even stopped Byrd at all.
Obviously Langford was better and would have won, but this isn't a colossal mismatch.

Langford wasn't the fast starter like you guys are suggesting, and I would give Byrd around 4 rounds in the ring with the boxing legend that is Langford.

Thanks. Btw, you and Alp have swayed me. Langford by KO in the early-to-middle rounds.

Certainly not a KO in one, but I see Langford eventually wearing down a prime Byrd and stopping him late. You have remember...in his prime, Byrd was one of the most elusive heavyweights there has ever been...not one of the greatest, but in terms of defense...a prime Byrd rates right up there. With that being said, I would pick Langford by knockout sometime after the seven round!

So why then did an utterly mediocre Vlad Klitschko (to cite the prevailing viewpoint) wipe the floor with Byrd twice, landing almost every punch and making Byrd -- including Byrd's much-touted defense -- look wholly amateurish?

Langford would stop him late IMO.

Byrd was far too defensively sound to be KO'd in 1 by Langford.

Was Wlad able to drop and stop Byrd in they're first bout...I don't think so...it wasn't until Byrd was old and no longer elusive that Wlad stopped him. And Langford...knockout in one...well, that's so much beyond ridiculous that it's just funny!

Vlad dropped Byrd twice in the first bout, a horribly one-sided beating where Byrd didn't have a whisker of a chance. Neither offensively nor defensively.

Langford Late rounds KO or Decision. I just can not figure a way for Byrd to win though he might finesse a few early rounds in a convincing way.....and he just might last it out.
