Seems like Guzman wants the fight with Pacquaio next year. Given pacquaio's history, he's not really been shy about taking on people who call him out.

This really is a fantastic fight on paper, both men are punchers and are quick, with Guzman the better all around fighter, but Pacquaio the heavier hitter if anything. Christ, anyone else excited about this one if it happens. This is about as good a fight as I can see around at the moment.

This is a great fight! Guzman and Valero were the two guys I was hoping Pac would fightin the future, if it happens I pray to God they show in in the UK.

I'd have to go for Guzman too, mainly because he's a mover with a good defence, and unlike Marquez, he can really bang also. Question marks over whether or not Guzman can pop at all at Sr Feather though, his KO ratio has taken a nosedive, whereas Pacman looks to be hitting as hard as ever if not harder.

Guzman will stop Pac-Man.

bold prediction, what makes you so sure? After all, Guzman hasn't scored a KO for over two years now, and he's moved up in weight two weight classes recently.

I see Guzman winning, but don't envisage him stopping Manny, who seems to have a pretty sturdy chin. He took some big shots from Morales in their first and second fight, and has looked pretty solid since moving up.

Mix and match Guzman, Valero and PacMan and you have a superfight right up there with the best of em. I reckon Guzman might just come out on top agianst either: he seems to have the iron chin, plus everything else too.
Valero & PacMan are the TNT punchers, but maybe a bit more vunerable than Guz in a shoot out.

Guzman is, however, done shopping for Emmanuel D. Pacquaio's big birthday celebration and he wants his future rival to know that, despite being in training camp in Las Vegas and flying to the Dominican Republic last night, with his entire team, he did not forget the Pacman's special day.

"Oh no," Guzman said upon arrival in his home town, "how can I forget Manny? I hope that Manny does not forget me when it comes to picking opponents in 2007. Besides, I always felt bad for the kids who have a birthday so close to Christmas. They are often overlooked and I did not want to see this happen to my Fillipino friend."

So what do you give the slugger who seems to have everything? Upon the suggestion of manager Jose Nunez, Guman's gift to Pacquaio is business related. Business related, yes, but also one which should provide some pre-holiday entertainment in the Pacman household in far off General Santos City, Philippines.

"I have bought Manny an internet viewing of my title bout and the other spectacular bouts which will be seen exclusively live on maxboxing.com," Guzman said. "I was going to invite Manny, Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez to come to my beautiful country and be my special guests at the show but I know Manny is busy with all the birthday hullabaloo and my two Mexican rivals are busy with their families and getting ready for the holidays," Guzman said.

On second thought, Guzman decided to go into his own pocket for two more subscriptions to see the bouts on maxboxing.com.

"I will place the order today because the price is a mere $9.95," Guzman said. "It is like a pre-holiday special price to see some great boxing. This way, I can buy showings of the maxboxing,com webcast for Marco, Juan Manuel and Manny and save some money because on Monday, December 18, the price is going up to $12.95. Am I a smart boxing shopper or what? I see this a great stocking stuffer for any real boxing fan.

Guzman, who has dazzling hand and foot speed and a marvelous defense, is not expecting a cake walk with American Davis.

"This kid is coming to spoil my holiday homecoming. His record is a good one at 20-2 and he won a Pan Am Games gold medal in the amateurs. He is no easy opponent. But I know I must shine brightly so I remain in the mix with Marco, Manny and Juan Manuel Marquez. The 130-pounders are hot right now. A lot of great fights can be made with the top four.

"I hope Manny eats a lot of cake and ice cream," Guzman said. "Maybe they will soften the Filpino Tiger up for the eventual night when we meet. I think Pacman and I will be like the Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali of the junior lightweight or super featherweight division. When we fight, and we will, look for a classic match up. By the way, Manny is Little Frazier and I am Little Ali."

Guzman had one last comment to offer.

"I want to thank all my wonderful fans for all their support in 2006. Look for even bigger things from me in the coming year. I even want to thank the haters because they bring passion to the sport and the passion of all the fans is what puts money in all world champions' pockets, including in mine. I really enjoy watching Guzman, he's a class act in the ring - I'm not so sure he can beat pacman, but what a fight!

If this happens it's got all the ingredients of a 'fight of the year' contender.

Like most here I'll take Guzman for this one. He's a much more rounded fighter than Pacquiao, there's just no obvious glaring weaknesses to his game. The only tiny chink in the armour is his tendency to have little sleepy patches during fights. If he takes rounds off against Pacquiao he'll get badly outworked. If he can stay focused for the entire duration I see no reason why he can't match Manny.

Wait and see what Guzman does when he's got the spot light on him against a pressure fight like Pac-man that lunges in with his shots.

Is Pac massively overated for the Morales win? Morales was coming off a shut out loss to Raheem who just lost and a BArrera loss.

Nope, I disagree Pacman will beat Guzman inside the distance. Guzman has great handspeed and may have a bunch of tricks, but I think Pacman's handspeed and heavy combination punching will be the difference. Guzman likes to lean over the front foot and pot shot showboat fashion. That will not work on Pacman.

Anyway, given that Pacman is considered by many on this thread to be at least No.2 P4P in the world at present, why is Guzman suddenly more fancied to win?

This would be a great fight. I think Guzman is very underrated and is probably the only guy at super featherweight that could beat Pacquiao. Valero is powerful but crude. I'd favour Pacquiao heavily against Valero.

I like Guzman, but Pacman has too much for him. If Guzman had Valero's power then he'd be in business, but as it stands I think Pacman will walk straight through him.

Guzman has outstanding boxing ability, wonderful reflezes, a snappy punch, and a defence that takes the sting out of nearly every punch. Pacman looks very fast, and is getting some better variety. But come on, Guzman is going to be in WAY better shape than the Barrera and Morales that Pac faced. If anyone's going to beat Pac it's Guzman. Give me the boxer over the puncher anyday. & I distinctly remember Pac losing around 9 rounds to Marquez. To me, Guzman is sturdier, more mobile and better coordinated than Marquez.

Imagine if Guzman fights & beats him. Loads of "Pac didn't have a chance", "Pac was overrated", revisionist wankers.

Well, Barrera is a legend so it's hard to write him off but he is getting old now and Paquiao pummelled him in their first fight. Also, Paquaio has improved a lot since then too. Granted, Barrera underestimated Pacman back then and wasn't at peak preperation but I still can't see him having much of a shot in a rematch.

A prime focussed Barrera would have a good shot but I think there are too many miles on the clock now.

I just think Barrera is using his brain more these days now he's losing his edge. I don't think Barrera would beat Pacman at all, but I do think it would/will be closer and almost certainly go the full trip.

As for Guzman being in better shape than the Barrera Pacquiao faced. I don't see that at all, Barrera was P4p top 3 at the time and right in his prime. Guzman is good, but Pacman is a level or 3 above anyone he's been in with before.

Joan's punch is being over rated though. He might have been a banger at 125 but not so much at 130. If Guzman had the power of which people speak of, he would have stopped the weight drained Barrios or Jauregui whom has been stopped 4 times before.

It's his speed and defence that will worry Pacquiao but I still see the new and improved Pacman wearing Joan down and maybe stopping him late.

We are still not sure of Guzman's stamina at 130 either, against Javier he tired down the stretch and didn't phase Javier with all his armshots, same with Barrios.

If Guzman is to beat Pacquiao he has to bring his A game and fight for a full 12 hard rounds, he's certainly not going to stop Pacquiao.

I think Pacquiao takes this, by close decision or late stoppage.

Stamina is the big question against Guzman. He punches himself out quite a lot. And as you say, Jauregei AND Barrios were weight drained.

On the other hand, he was giving away some considerable weight, at least against Barrios.

What I like about Guzman is his defence. It lets him regroup, Toney style, and he seems to take no clean shots.

Styles make fights. Marquez boxed his ears off for 10 of 12 rounds despite being dropped three times. Guzman is more fluid than Marquez, and more of a puncher.
