Who is Arturo Morua?

Anyone seen Arturo Morua fight? And how has he got a shot at Junior Witter?

It will be almost 5 years since his last KO win by the time he gets in the ring with Witter, and in the 13 fight since the KO , he has lost 6 of them.
Well I hope Hennessy puts on a good undercard, because the main event is shite.

H beat Maussa and Augustus but lost to Rabah. I haven't seen him fight but he must have something about him despite his losses

He would be aceptable as a non-title fight, If Hatton had chosen someone like him to fight on the 20th everyone would be howling in protest.

Well he may be no worse than Urango - both got outboxed by Rabah. HE also beat 1 of Hattons recent opponents too so whats good for the goose is good for the gander. I think Witters camp are struggling to find top fighters who'll step in against him. I suspect Morua is someone reasonable they want to look impressive against in the absense of any other names. I would expect a Harris fight sometime in the future though if that is enforced as a mandatory. A Corrales fight should be the goal.

I have got Morua's fight with Jung Bum Kim and it is quite a good all action fight but Morua is nothing special and has no real power in his punch as can be seen on his record.

I agree, poor first defence for Witter. He holds wins over Cosme Rivera and Carlos Maussa but has lost to Juaquin Gallardo, the man who pushed Colin Lynes to a MD. I think that was the infamous Bravo broadcast.

Now having seen Lazcano vs Garnica I wouldn't have minded either being the opponent here. It was a good fight, but for my money Garnica was a tad unfortunate not getting the decision.

Garnica dominated vs a lacklusture Maussa in his fight before.

Urango should have a loss to Rabah too though.

How come Ben Rabah was rightfully dismissed as a possible opponent for Hatton so much so Hatton gave up the belt yet Urango and Morua are both deemed worthy foes of Britain's two best Welter's.

I think Hatton has become of a bit of a tired parody amongst British Boxing fans since the Tszyu fight. He still has the beer swilling contingent behind him though.

I would partially agree but at the same time i think Hennessy has done well with a difficult guy to market like Witter given his style and ostricisation from the mainstream after his showing against Judah. He is now WBC champion and making a defence against an admittedly poor opponent but one would think a big fight opportunity would come.

On a similar note i was flicking through Witter-Corley again the other night and Corley's interview afterwards made me laugh. He was basically claiming a hometown decision and said Witter's style would land him no favours in America. What basis does Corley think he would have won a decison in USA? For the three punches he landed all night, wake up mate you were dire!

Yes, owning a belt is not enough to make you a draw in boxing. Witter hasn't had a compelling performance in recent times to create a buzz. The fight with Corley was pretty poor to watch, and won't really have won Witter any new fans.

The difference is that people want to fight Hatton, because they know it's likely to be a big payday, or rather, then know there will be a lot of money on the table, and they anticipate being able to negotiate a big payday. It's also an opportunity to get themselves on a big show in a main event, which is not to be sniffed at.

Look at Luis Collazo, he's fighting Mosley next, largely I would suggest, on his showing against Hatton. Think that Mosley might have made a mistake there, I think it could be the end of the line. At least we will know how much he really has left.

Hope you don't think I'm singling you out here, but if Hatton is “avoiding” all these millions of fighters - why doesn’t Witter fight one of em Jan 20?

I think you’d find that Witter’s camp were struggling - struggling to find someone who’ll fight in a “world title” bout on PPV for next to no money at all.

Witter will be taking home around £35K for this, so Morua will probobly be looking at taking home £15Kish... in other words what Femi got for a British Title challenge. And this is a fight to compare with Ricky headlining in Vegas on HBO with Castillo on the undercard.

Still on par with Hatton's Maussa fight though  . Don't forget Hopkins/Winky/ were making pigeon feed for a long time. 1 big fight that Witter wins could put his name in the stars. He only needs to tempt 1 star into the ring for the money to start rolling in.

How do you know for sure what Witters making here? I am pretty dubious about a rival managers talking down what a fighters earning. And how on earth did Femi make £35k against Johanson?

I think he meant 15k for Femi. I always remember reading Michael Gomez got around 16k for the British title challenge to Alex Arthur.

But how does he tempt a star? The only stars at 140 are Hatton (obviously out the equation) Castillo (fighting Hatton next) and Corrales (Not going to travel to Ally Pally to fight Witter for peanuts)

Fact is Witter is never going to be a big money star, no matter which title he holds. He just cannot generate cash. SKY aren't going to throw money at him just because he's got a green belt.

Witter could fight on a Golden Boy show and get exposure maybe?

OK, so the next time you go on about Hatton "avoiding" Vivian Harris, I'll remind you that a brutal KO of the Year win over Harris means absolutely F-all in your view! :TU:

All about styles and American TV exposure... Urango is an all-action fighter who has had some exciting fights on ESPN.., Rabah (who I thought ran away all night and lost that fight) is a bore to watch and stunk the place out on his one ESPN appearance... if you stink out ESPN, you don't get a call to go on HBO... fact is in modern boxing HBO call the shots... it's the same for Hatton as it is for every other HBO fighter not named "Oscar"....
No Maussa beating Harris means as much as McCall beating Lewis or Purity beating Wlad. It was a fluke upset. Thats why Maussa has been beaten by several C-D Level operators.

If Rabah had got the decision he would be up next for Hatton.
