Is there any hope for Burger King's customer of the year 2004/5/6 & 7, following his humiliating defeat at the hands of a man who can't punch & is afraid of fighting?

I really hope that Danny does call it a day.

I know he had little time to prepare, but there is no way that the Williams of 3 or 4 years ago would have gone out like that against a poor opponent like Audley Harrison.

For all his faults, he was a fairly tough fighter with a big heart.

It's a bit rich criticising Danny's weight considering the man you've named yourself after is hardly the sveltest of chaps at the moment.

Danny should retire I think. He showed an alarming vulnerability against Harrison, who is hardly a huge puncher. If he fights on he'll be risking becoming just a name on inferior fighter's records.

Danny should trim down by a couple of stone, then retire.

The question is can allegedly afford to lose his (not so) super sub? Who is he going to call up next time one of his TV cards goes south if Danny does retire?

What he needs to do is lock himself away with Jimmy Mac for 8-10 weeks and see how he gets on. If he's found wanting after all that preparation then he should retire. But not until he's given himself a proper chance, and by that I mean going away and training, not half-hearted efforts down at his old amateur club.

Its a bit of a shame Danny is getting so much stick - He has been good but sadly not any more - Getting beaten by Harrison to me has finished his career - Not sure he can recover from that loss, so I think its time to quit - I would hate to see him as a journeyman for young lads comming up to knock about and then make a name for themselves - Hopefully he has made enough money out of boxing and can make a fresh start doing something different.

I definately think Danny should retire. He has provided us with some exciting moments over the years, even if he didnt quite reach the potential we thought he would, and deserves to go out with a bit of dignity.

If he wishes to continue:

I'd get him a couple of tune-ups early next year to get the confidence back, and I'd MAKE him shift a couple of stone - he's far too heavy. Then I'd try to go out with a bang and finish the series off with Sprott for the EBU-EU title....so that at least Danny would have gotten some Euro-merit if not the real EBU title.

Personally I think he still has a bit left to offer, but in the past 3 years his WEIGHT has ruined his path - he was so much better when he used to fight at 16stone instead of 18.

Seriously though, Danny needs to quit.

Every fighter has a fight in his career which tells him he should call it a day & that was it for Danny.

Like you say, Audley cannot punch, yet he carved up Williams.

The shortness of preparation time may have been a factor, but Williams himself says not, so I have to accept that.

I just don't think Danny's heart is in it any more, what's the point continuing? The guy has even said himself that he never wanted to be a boxer, and that his dad forced him to take it up. Considering that, Danny has really done rather well, because I've always thought he's a bit too soft hearted for a fighter. If he had the fire in his belly to go with his natural athletic ability, which is not inconsiderable, he could probably have gone a lot further, but still, not a bad career at all.

Rumour has it that he's still planning on taking the Gammer fight.

Danny and Skelton probably didn't even get 100k when they fought each other, Gammer's managing is dumb.

Probably think Danny's past it, equaling good name on his record.

Why does Williams deserve luck? He deserves to keep losing for keep turning up to fights looking like a sumo wrestler.

Very true.

To be honest, I think Williams has reached the point of no return in regards to his girth.

There comes a point in life whereby short of drastic action, you just can't shift the weight & I think that Danny has reached that point in his life.

someone said Danny was better at 16 Stone than 18 - but Danny aint seen 18 stone in a while.

If DW got in the ring at 17 stone muscle, he would have beat AH, would have beat Skelton in the rematch, could be on to fight Briggs maybe? or Virchis/Sprott? Skys the limit when you are on a roll of big wins. Where could he have gone, with the division so weak? We will never know, i reckon Brit/C'wealth level is the ceiling now, I would not want to see Danny put in with young prospects either, so if he cannot keep challenging for or winning belts, then its time to go

I've got a lot of time for DW, but if he cant get fit/motivated, then he owes it to himself to walk away

Danny at 17 stone could of won a world belt.

Not now though, he should retire, but I wouldn't complain if he fights Gammer to try and leave with a win. He deserves a win before he leaves.

What is laughable is that is he is only 6ft 1in!

He simply does not need to be so heavy!

I really don't think Williams at any weight could have won a world belt, he couldn't even win a European title against a pedestrian Sam.
