Had the worst/disappointing 2006?

with this year big fights wise over. who had the worst 2006 or most disappointing year?
here are my 3 picks.
1 John Murray
has had a horrible 2006. after his out standing 2005 which saw him pick up his first title. saw him return late in 2006 and twice beat billy smith which he looked very average and Moebi Sarouna where he could of got beaten if Sarouna was having a good day. off the field politics and bad preparation has probably lead to this.
2 George Hillyard
Once named as good prospect by forum members. Hillyard was unluck to lose against ernie smith late in 2005
in 2006 Hillyard has gone 2-2 which could of been 1-3 if it hadnt of been for a last round ko. Hillyard has chosen to slug his way to victory instead of box and has had a very leaky defense which has been exposed early.
3 Scott Harrison
For obvious reasons.
not far off the list are
John McDermott ................. what happened to him?
Gavin Rees ........................... ever going to challenge for a title?
Roman Greenberg ............... please step up

Couldn't argue with any of these but I would go with, to be different.
1) Danny Williams - may have started of 2006 as #1 Heavyweight, but now probably out side top 3.
2) Michael Jennings - on the crest of big things then lost to Mutley.
3) Mark Krence - going through a poor run of form.
Close to list.
Lee Swaby - similar to Krence.
Colin Lynes - gave Witter a good account at the end of 2005. Looked European level, then lost quite convincingly to Daws.
Ricky Hatton - One fight.

1. allegedly: Promises so much, delivers so little.
2. Scott Harrison: Managed not only to ruin his own year, but Nicky Cook's as well.
3. Calzaghe: Started the year on such an awesome high... finished with Bika and a date with Manfredo.

Erik Morales can't be over the moon about this last year, knocked down 5 times and annihilated twice by the same man in the same year, after never having been stopped before at all.

Zab Judah...loses Welter Crown, then loses his mind to a guy you can't do that against, and gets suspended.

Tarver must be a strong candidate. One fight all year, and that was an embarrassingly tepid effort against a smaller, older man. Plus he's in the newest Rocky outing, which is apparently totally pants.

yeah but that older, smaller man was bernard hopkins.
playing in a rocky movie is hardly a low point.
john murray has my vote.
he didn't lose, but it was a stinker of a year.

john murray in 2nd.

So, the guy looked bad in his comeback because he tore his rotator cuff....the fact he didn't lose by TKO says a lot about Jeff's toughness. Did he want to lose as bad as he did to Joe? No, no one does, but the fact hea ctually lasted 12 is an accomplishment in it's own right. Jeff wasn't disappointing, we just found out what he truly is. If you're disappointed by a guy who hits like a truck, has a great chin, but lacks the skill to beat top notch boxers, so be it.

There are some contenders for the world scene.
James Toney, Jean Marc Mormeck, Chris Byrd, John Ruiz, Eric Morales, Diego Corrales, Jeff Lacy, Zab Judah, Ike Quartey (shafted then a bit outclassed at world level), Arturo Gatti, Kinglsey Ikeke, Otis Grant, Felix Sturm, Jurgen Brahmer all had 2006 they would like to forget.

Though of a new #1 domestically for this title.
Although I don't want to say it given the major family problems he was having at the time.
But Jimmy Vincent will probably want to see the back of 2006 for personal and proffesional reasons.

I think Ricky Hatton has had a pretty shite year. From the euphoria of 2005, dethroning Tszyu and grabbing another belt he's had just one fight in which most people felt (perhaps a tad harshly) that he didn't impress.
In what should have been a year in which he really established himself as perhaps one of the top 6 pound for pounders he has found himself without a title and lacking some direction.
And he got mugged in Shanghai.
All in all a dissapointing year for Ricky Hatton fans I feel.

Particularly good calls on Morales and Lacy, they might call this year Two Thousand and Sick.

Damaen Kelly
Robbed of the European bantamweight title against Maludrottu in his own country.
Has to travel to Italy for the rematch.
Beaten in 3 rounds in the Maludrotto rematch and retires.

Lacy was pig sick about the loss, why do you think he sacked of Gary Shaw, he blames shaw for putting him in with Calzaghe, that's why. Lacy may well never recover from the psychological beatdown he got from Calzaghe.
Stu, Kingsley Ikeke hasn't fought this year, has he?

I doubt Ricky feels dissapointed.

I didn't check, thought his fight with Abraham was this year, perhaps it was 2005.
Still though a bad year then.

He may hit like a truck but in order to make that work you have to land a punch. You think he only looks bad against top-notch boxers? Well he fought one this year and looked a million notches below him. Jeff was exposed, he then looked unimpressive whilst taking a backwards step before bowing out with injury.
The question was who had a bad year, Lacy did, any way you look at it.
Lacy went 1-1 and got injured, not the best year, but guys out there had far worse years.
Morales, Judah...
Rocky Juarez had a draw, then lost the draw, then got completely outboxed by the same guy
Brewster had a bad year, lost to a guy that was shuffled in to be beaten
Fernando Vargas had a really bad year
A lot of guys had worse years than Lacy did at 1-1.

I agree with Terrence, Lacy started off 2006 as many peoples fighter of 2005. He was the favourite to beat Calzaghe and cement his place as one of the finest P4P fighters.
Now people are wondering if he is world class.
What happend to Rocky Juarez in the Barrera rematch was many people predictions for the first fight. So I think his reputation has stayed the same. Solid operator, could probably pick up a version of the title someday - no Barrera, Marquez or Pacquiao though.
Brewster and Vargas are better calls. Although for Vargas his first fight with Mosley exceeded the expectations (as a fight and for his performance)... so that made the second performance all the more dissapointing.
Brewster, likes Rahman and Lyakovich (later in the year for the last two) - started 2006 as possibly the "future" of the devision. He might not have been the official number one, but he was putting in the performance (vs Golota) that were taking notice.... just as he was about to really get noticed, he lost.
Same with Rahman - fairly impressive in the draw vs Toney (most people thought he won) - then loses to Maskaev. Lyakovich was very impressive beating Brewster, then loses to Shannon Briggs of all people. A complete 180 in terms of performance. Although with him, at least he is now in the picture.
James Toney had a pretty shitty year. Most people had him booked to beat Rahman easy.

Lacy did have a horrid year no doubt but I'd probably give him another chance before consigning to 'non world class'.
The torn rotar cuff thing may/may not have been a mistruth, time will tell.

He would have fought Gatti wouldn't he, if Gatti had beaten Baldomir? So a bit unlucky there. But he moved up a weight and won a title. Disapointing? yes, shite? not really.
I think it has to go to Lacy. Came to the UK being hailed as the next big thing, being fancied to beat Calzaghe. Ends the year, winning a fight he didn't deserve to, on an undercard against an unknown and injured for the next year.

Hatton has had an average year whatever way we try and dress it up. One fight in which he fails to impress in 12 months. Not disastrous by any means but when you consider the position he was in at the start of 2006 you have to say he has failed to capitalise on a great 2005.
