Gonzalez takes Erdei rematch on 5 weeks notice

Can't say this fight makes much sense. Erdei beat him convincingly last time out, and Gonzalez lost his only significant fight since. But he's ranked, so it will be a good name for Zsolt (again)...the only time Erdei beat a top ten Ring mag contender was in the first Gonzalez fight.
Think it will be easier this time around, Gonzo ain't what he used to be (which was never much).

a very ugly rematch - I gave Erdei EVERY ROUND and the Mexican has definitely slipped some since then

Erdie put in a punch perfect display that night and will have to go a long way to improve on it.
I would like to see Erdei against a Briggs or a Woods. This fight is a poor one in terms of establishing the best at 12st 7..

So while Adamek gets Dawson, Erdei takes yet ANOTHER step backwards. Surely people will stop making Erdei #1 at light heavy now.

Crap fight, a shut out for Erdei although i doubt he steps it up enough to stop Gonzalez. This is a waste of time though and the reason why we have disputes as to who is the best in each division.

On the plus side, when Gonzalez loses (as he surely will) he'll hopefully drop down the IBF rankings, where he's currently number 2. So they'll be no danger of Woods-Gonzalez 2 being forced upon us.

the IBF seem to like Gonzalez. The loss to Woods did little to harm his high ranking!
Fingers crossed.

Nothing seems to harm the man's ranking, he's bullet-proof. They continue to throw him into eliminators when he's not done anything since the first fight with Erdei.
And I thought that Kessler Vs Beyer was a crap rematch.

Mind you, Woods could hardly complain if Gonzalez was recycled. Clinton sat at the top of the IBF rankings for a fair old while.

I agree, I don't like this rematch at all. Imo Gonzalez shouldn't be in the top 12 at 175 right now, but Ring has him at 8 or so, so for Erdei it's his 2nd fight with a Ring mag top 10 contender.
Definitely a step backwards though and goes to show how far Erdei is planning on "stepping up" in terms of opposition, which is not at all.
I had the first fight 10-2 Erdei, btw. He might as well rematch Ulrich then too, as I had that match 8 rounds to 4 for Erdei.

That's a fair point. It's like being stuck in a bloody loop at lightheavy at the moment. The sooner some of the younger fighters come through to title level the better.

Erdei's jab was mightily impressive in the Ulrich fight, won it handily.

I think I had Erdei-Gonzalez 12-0 and Erdei-Ulrich 10-2. Quality boxer, but come on Zsolt, what are you afraid of?

His jab and stamina both looked better than they ever had in the Ulrich fight. Still, would like to see Erdei in with the elite at 175.

Erdei has bags of ability and is very slick but his matches mean little at the moment. Fighting no marks like Paul Murdoch, don't get me wrong Murdoch was game and brave but seriously lacking in top level experience and talent.
I hate to keep harping on but the Gonzalez rematch dents my passion for the sport. Woods, Adamek, Dawson, Drews even...plenty of alternative options for Erdei out there.

I think Adamek's going to be the boss for a while.
Dawson's skilled but probably not strong enough to hang with Tomasz.
Adamek probably isn't as easy to hit as he looked last time. It's when he gets nailed by a big shot that he seems to abandon defence.
Briggs is the guy that can do that to him, and he'll run him close every time.
McGirt has added some dimensions to Adamek. I like how he punches and then sidesteps. When he can blend punching and movement more seamlessly, he'll be near impossible to take down.
TA's size, combinations, punch variety and sturdiness are going to make him the boss at 175. This guy's a real champion.

I would tend to agree with that, no way could Tarver live with Adamek. Too strong, fit and hard hitting...i could well see Tarver getting stopped if they ever got it on.

Erdei will fight Danny Santiago, not Gonzalez.
Santiago:

Well wouldn't say this is a step up in class but at least it gives Erdei a different problem to solve, Santiago does after all hold the WBC INTERCONTINENTAL MUNDO HISPANO LT HVY TITLE and is on an unbeaten run including wins over Ron Boddie and Marlon Hayes.
Erdei UD12 Santiago.

It’s definitely a step down, his record pales in comparison with Gonzalez.

erdei is only confirming his lack of heart and warrior spirit!! adamek shows great heart by facing the guy who nearly beat him in 1st bout (briggs) and the division's rising star (dawson) in the guy's home country...dawson previously showed his spirit by willingness to go to germany to face euro stipe drews before drews PUNKED OUT!!
can there be any doubt
who the genuine LHW world champ...erdei is the stereotypical 2nd-rate WBO champ---the kind that has given WBO it's 3rd-rate rep by facing 2nd-rate challengers!!
adamek will still be the genuine champ if he defends successfully, dawson if he unseats the legit champ adamek!!
P.S...i wrote this when i thought gonzo was the challenger for erdei...
santiago is even more of embarrassment for the hungarian impostor!! :(

Danny Santiago...ouch.
Santiago was a decent top 20 LHW after KOing 29-1 Elvir Muriqi 2 years back, but then he goes out and gets a contoversial draw with 15-7 Rayco Saunders, who gets beat by (promising) 15-fight novice Chris Henry in his next outing.
Santiago is barely in the top 30 nowadays...definitely not worthy of a titleshot, nevermind a fight with one of LHW's top 5.

zsolt is definitely living DOWN to the level of his WBO title belt!!
getting held to a draw by a scrub like rayco saunders is apparently how santiago got his title shot...rayco's biggest claim to fame was being shown on the front page of USA TODAY as the poster boy for the "dont snitch" movement started up by gangbangers, drug dealers & other ghetto predators to convince local folks not to testify in criminal cases that target their law-breaking "homeboys" in the 'hood!!

Sadly we see Universum at it again.
