Just recently I saw for the thousandth time the first fight with Corales and Castillo, a thought ocurred what if he were to fight like that against a prime Roberto Duran? Do you think he would at least have a chance against possibly the greatest lightweight of all time?

I think he would hjave gotten KO’d before the end of the 2nd round. Castillo has decent skills, but seems to have spent years without ever learning much about the defensive aspect of the sport. He would have been cannon fodder for a prime Duran.

Good Point ! But what if he was to use his advantages in height and reach?

Duran at his best was able to dissect and destroy excellent ring technicians like DeJesus and Buchanan, I really can’t see the defensive challenged Corrales suddenly becoming Benny Leonard.

Corrales doesnt make good use of his height and reach as he should, he really neglects his jab, and as pointed out doesnt have much defense.
Corrales would get some shots in, and would put in a warriors effort, but I doubt he would make it through 5 (probably 3 is more like it), Duran would rip him up to the body and leave Corrales in a heep.

Corrales would be target practice for Duran. The only question would be, how long does the referee let it go before he stops it. My guess would be about 6 rounds.

I'd say Duran destroys Corrales inside 6 rounds also. Castillo is a great fighter, but Duran is arguably the best lightweight of all-time. I just don't see how Castillo could trouble Duran at all. Duran beats Corrales 10 out of 10 times and probably Castillo 4 out of 5. I just can't see either fighter troubling Duran much. I do feel Castillo would give a better fight than Corrales. Probably losing a valiant but clear unanimous decision against Duran.
