Roberto Duran vs. Jake LaMotta (160 lbs)

Who wins between these two? This would be a good brawl with Duran's heavy hands and LaMotta's granite chin.

I think Duran, with his ability to slip punches and counter, would win several rounds early, but if this is a 15 rd bout, I see LaMotta's strength and constant pressure being too much for Duran in the second half. At the end I see it about 9-6 for LaMotta.

At 160 Duran will have a hard time.

the PRIME 1943-46 jake lamotta will make dogmeat out of 160lb roberto duran

the past his prime, weight drained lamotta you see on film was far removed from his best days

Just like Hagler did?

La Motta wins but Duran will not be dogmeat. laMotta's style would eb well suited to Duarn who would do better than we might first think. It's still jake's fight though.

A '72-80 prime Duran would P4P make dogmeat out of a '43-46 LaMotta . That's how silly this thread is :-?

It is silly...

P4P Duran's better...but in head to head, Lamotta was great at 160 while Duran was great at 135...not a real fair matchup...

p4p my arese. Who can ever know this ridiculous scenario. Fact is that Lamotta would probably be too good for a smaller more natural lightweight. Duran was a fantastic Ligh/welter. He was not in Jake's league as a middle, but he would definitely give a good account of himself

P4P Bob Foster and Joe Frazier were very comparable. In reality Frazier wiped the floor with Foster. Why? Because Joe was a HW and Foster a LHW. So why anyone would want to put together a prime middleweight in LaMotta against a very much not prime Duran, is beyond my comprehension

p.s. The Duran of the Barkley fight beats LaMotta :box:

He arguably didn't even beat Barkley. How the hell would he beat a prime LaMotta?
He didn't beat Barkley? I could have sworn I saw him beat Barkley :o

As it stands:
  • A couple of years after moving up to 147, he beat Leonard for the title.
  • Quit in the rematch.
  • Outboxed by Wilfred Benitez.
  • Lost to Kirkland Laing.
  • Knocked out Pipino Cuevas.
  • Knocked out Davey Moore for the WBA title at 154.
  • Lost a close one to Marvin Hagler.
  • Got knocked out easily by Tommy Hearns.
  • Beat Iran Barkley for the WBC title at 160.
  • Lost clearly to Leonard.
If the judging had been a little different:
  • A couple of years after moving up to 147, he fought Leonard for the title, but lost a close one.
  • Quit in the rematch.
  • Outboxed by Wilfred Benitez.
  • Lost to Kirkland Laing.
  • Knocked out Pipino Cuevas.
  • Knocked out Davey Moore for the WBA title at 154.
  • Lost decidedly to Marvin Hagler.
  • Got knocked out easily by Tommy Hearns.
  • Fought Iran Barkley for the WBC title at 160 and lost a close one.
  • Lost clearly to Leonard.
I mean, I rank the shit out of Duran for what he did at 135, which was incredible, but his 1980s career is overrated.
Do you wonder why you've been banned from BA? :-?

As I have posted a couple times in the past, a fight that flew under the radar in Durans middleweight days was his split dec. here in Chicago over Jeff lanas.
I was at that fight and Lanas should have gotten the dec. in my opinion,The reason Lanas was able to hang with him was Duran just didnt have the punch to hurt that guy.

Not at all. There was this one guy who started about five new topics a day in (I forget the name of the section), and he started one called, "The World's Most Dangerous Man." It was about Dick Cheney. I wrote the following:

Image
Ken Shamrock does not approve of this post.

I forget the guy's name, but I started posting the picture in every thread he started, followed by pithy sayings like, "Ken Shamrock does not condone animal abuse."

Anyway, I've been banned from 50 or 60 websites, probably more.
You miss the point. You're a moron :TU:

LaMotta would win this one.

Middleweight was his domain.

As great as Duran was, he wasn't a middleweight.

Yes he won a belt when he was 500 years old, but that was just a trinket in the current multi belt age.

LaMotta would have won on points.

Duran -135 lb, Lamotta- 160 lb.

Duran is great at 135lb. He did well at 147lb and did also well at 160lb(Marvin Hagler, Iron Barkley).

But Lamotta is a Middleweight Legend. Is Duran a Middleweight Legend? Definitely NO.

Can Leonard defeat Hagler if he fights any time? Can Lenoard defeat Carlos Monzon and Sugar Ray Robinson at 160lb? Upset is just upset.

Lamotta has too much power and good stamina to be handled by Duran.

Lamotta will win..

I am a Duran fan, and I do not think he would have beaten a great fighter like LaMotta at 160. Remember, LaMotta is not Iran Barkley, and I cannot see LaMotta lose to a washed up 37 year old like Duran.

LaMotta at 160 even beat better fighters than Duran at this weight class:
Robinson, Cerdan, Dauthille, Villemain, Irish Murphy and a great selection of good black fighters.

One thing for certain is that LaMotta had more speed at this weight than Duran. Speed is the big factor

LaMotta vs Duran at 160 is a great fight. LaMotta with a black eye by decision in a great contest.

LaMotta wouldn't be intimidated by Duran, and would go on to pound out a UD over 15 in a thrilling fight.
