Hall of Famer? Eventually I guess, if McGuigan gets in, Nelson must get in. But how do other people see his career, now its over. Did he make the best fights? I dont think he did, apart from Guillermo, and Carl Thompson, who did he fight? I guess he fought in Germany, which counts for a bit.
Don't get me wrong, I never saw him fight. So I'm willing to be proved wrong.

definitely not a hall of famer.
beat a lot of average opponents in defence of his wbo title.
lost 2 fights for major titles.
lucky to draw with guillermo jones.
didn't fight the other title holders.

Thats what I thought, seeing as he never fought the other champs, but having never seen him fight, i thought it unkind to comment first

he had talent.
check out his title winning effort against carl thompson.
but he would often go negative when guys pushed him on the defensive and wouldn't go away (eg. jones).

A good solid champion but not a hall of famer. He did well in the fight versus Carl Thompson but i still think Paul Thomas stopped it prematurely.

Solid title holder, successful, well of sportsman, brilliant defensive fighter, a credit to the sport but sadly not a great fighter.
Juan Carlos Gomez was a potential hall of famer while he was WBC cruiser champ - if he'd stayed at c/w, he would've been a near great. I always felt Gomez was a lot better than Nelson, Jirov and Tiozzo.

johnny epitamises what is good about a boxer, a real gentleman, a loyal ingle guy, and a world champion who worked on his best assets from grass roots level. excellent benchmark for youngsters to aspire to.....YES, hall of famer......NO.

WTF is there to check out in the Nelson/Thompson fight exactly?....all i can remember about that fight is how the ref was quick to stop the fight.

it was a premature stoppage.
but nelson still boxed well that night.

Talented fighter for sure, but didn't beat anybody even aproaching greatness and never won a real world title, only the third rate WBO strap.

No way he makes the hall of fame. A mediocre at best championship reign. And lets not forget the absolute stinkers with De Leon and Warring.

Yes, Nelson's career demonstrated perseverance and dedication.
But the fact is he was crap to watch and his "entertainer" alias was some kind of perverted sick joke.
And the worst thing about it is i thought once he would retire that would be it, he could be forgotten real quick...but no...SKY in their infinite wisdom decide to give the man with the cheesiest grin on the Planet a job as commentator....it's as if the fookers go out their way to pis$ boxing fans off.
