Seriously though, wasn't Calzaghe's charity work a factor also in his award? For all his criticisms he does a fair amount of publicity/raise awareness for the Ty Hafan Children's hospice - which should be respected anyway.

Handing out an MBE to a 26-27 year old guy who in 1999 had not fought a really serious fighter his whole career is enough to tell me they have not a clue what they are talking about.

It makes me laugh about society really.

It is like those people who read a 22 year olds biography and take it seriously.
To me thats what these people who create and hand out these awards come over like.
Unless that person found the cure for cancer or something similar then ... well no offence but, the chances are this individual probably didn't make the moves in life they claimed and there is a good chance you are reading a book from one of the spice girls and how they made it.

These awards are given out to people who also do a lot of work in their communities as you could find out that hatton works with kids all the time but you would rather jump in and talk nonsense about something or someone you know nothing about and struggle to form any sort of lucid argument to support your bullshit take on things.

The Monarchy clearly has FA say in who gets an honour (Geoffrey Archer anyone?), The government trade off titles for cash, and occasionally hand out something to the GP and sportsmen who are seen as role models or ambassadors for their sport. Say what you like about Hatton, but his behaviour out of the ring is impeccable.
