Could another Sugar pull off the Late Comeback?

In a 15 rd bout, I think it'd be Robinson by a late stoppage after a close fight in which Sugar Ray would get rocked a few times and possibly even dropped.

Hearns was mesmerising at Welter, but Ray would be too rough and tough, busier, as hard hitting with a steel chin and would KO Tommy by the 9th or 10th round

Suger Ray Robinson was simply the greatest fighter to ever enter a ring (in my opinion) ,he was exceptional and as good asTommy Hearns was (which was fantastic) Robinson was better! Robinson by k.o 10 - 12 rounds!

Wrong answer guys....The Motor City Cobra would have him on the deck a couple of times. The fight would be stopped via the 3 knockdown rule. The Hitman in 8.

Id imagine it would be a closish match, with SRR kayoing Tommy somewhere after the 8th or 9th round. Tommy's supreme boxing skills, long reach and power would make it a competitive bout, but SRR is just better, and with a significantly better chin.

Really I think Robinson would out class Hearns, Tommys advantage over many of his opponents at 160 was his speed but Robinson was faster, more durable and a better all round boxer... if Tommy chose to box then Ray would wear him down and ko him in about 9 or 10 rounds but if Tommy tried to bomb Ray out he would be koed himself pretty quick in about 2 or 3 rounds.... Robinson was just different class at 160...

Silk the fights at WW Hearns simply lost his legs when he was Nailed good.. it took him a round or 2 To get his legs back. Question does anyone know What was the longest Reach SRR eevr faced I am aware that the tallest fighers he ever faced were Kid Gavilan 5'10 71” Randy Turpin 5'10 Gave him Trouble..

Hearns didnt have the durability to beat Robinson, he didnt have it at 147 and he certainly didnt have it at 160... he was a great fighter but Robinson was one of the top 2 or 3 fighters of all time... thats the difference...

..look at dee-cag's stats.....they tell you allyou need to know, re; heights and weight giveaways.

robinson would go into this one knowing what a dangerous puncher hearns was.....so...he'd take no chances and knock him out as soon as he could. sugar ray by a kayo in a few rounds.

Hearns could win a 4 rounder IMO. In fact he would be doing well against Robinson until Ray got him in trouble and landed the goodnight shot.

Ugh. Hearns never lost his legs from a single shot, at least not at 147. Look at all the tough shots from Hagler it took before Hearns lost his legs.

...a very brief accumulation....considering he didn't make the end of the 3rd round....

Did you actually see all those hellacious shots that Hearns took, or did you look it up on Boxrec?

Seriously. What about those hellacious combinations Leonard landed flush in their first fight? Leonard was not exactly featherfisted.

SRR beats Hearns easily.. Hearns is a great welterweight but cannot beat the original Sugar..

Tommy would not have had the stamina to last the course against SRR.

He could not have KO'd SRR, so he probably would have been tired in the 2nd half of the fight, trying to KO the sugarman.

Tommy had excellent boxing skills, but so did Sugar Ray.

Tommy was too easily drawn into a brawl & that would have been his downfall.
