Not seen Johannesson yet, how well could he do against Burns?

johannesson looks similar in Size to Earl, so will Burns just counter punch Carl to decision?

I don't think Johannesson will be taking Burns as lightly as Earl did. In fact, I expect Johannesson to win this one. Tidy enough boxer with a good punch at this level. Burns will undoubtedly have his moments, but I just think his lack of power will be his undoing. Good fight though.

Burns does have a good chin to take power well though.

Ricky Burns should give Carl a much stiffer argument than Femi did last time out. Much tougher and more talented.

Johannson appears a lot quicker than Earl is. If Burns can make his presence felt in the first 6 rounds and stay with him, Ricky might be able to test Carl's stamina which I've still got doubts about.

I think Bruns hits hard enough at Super Featherweight to worry Johanneson - whose chin I am not uttterly convinced about.

I think Burns' power is the issue - if Carl can walk through Burns then I fully expect a late stoppage or points win (ala Arthur) but if he cannot then I think Burns will win probably on points but maybe even a early/mid stoppage (when Johannesson seems to be most vulnerable).

Should be a good one, when is it on?

I don't deny Burns's ability to land his punches. My worry is that they will never have enough effect. I have visions of a domestic Cotto-Malignaggi, where one guy does so much good work, but it's all undone by the fact that his opponent is busting him up so much.

burns has lots of power but hes more of a boxer so he doesnt get his shots out which is frustrating as i know he has power-trust me

Great respect for Burns taking this fight. It will be a war. Johanson seems to be a stubborn and difficult guy to beat, he has heart. I predict it will be difficult, both ways.

Similar to the way I see it. I don't think Burns has enough in his puches to keep Johanneson off him. He can land them, I don't doubt that, but he doesn't have anything to stop Carl in his tracks. Bad news against someone who, at this level, is a very relentless fighter.

Should be a decent fight, with plenty of action, but I can only see it being a gutsy losing effort for Burns.

I think Burns will win this. He has a better workrate than Johanneson and should have the chin to stand up to his punches. Johanneson's best hope is to hammer the body and try to slow Burns down, otherwise he'll be outworked.

True. But it's also true that Burns has only fought one man better than Johanneson, and he lost that one convincingly in the end. Even if he can recreate the brave performance that gave Arthur problems early on, I don't think that will be enough. Johanneson will try to put him under pressure from the opening bell right through to the end of the fight, and I've yet to be convinced that Burns will be able to cope with that.

He won about 3 rounds against Arthur but Burns stepped up a level too much.

Burns would batter Cocoran or Femitola.

Burns has a major height advantage to pick Carl off If he tries to get close too and has the counter punching skill to do it as well.

Strangley though, Burns and Mitchell are rated in the WBC but Carl isn't!

You've gotta love those ABC rankings. Some weirdness going on there, not as weird as the WBA, but weird nevertheless. Weird.

Good fight and tough to pick. Whilst Burns' power may be underated, I also feel Johansson's boxing skills are. I see Burns as being a lot more durable than Femi after being in the ring with Arthur and I think the main problem for Carl will be not running out of ideas if he isn't wearing Burns down by the halfway stage. 50/50, if Carl stops him then he should get a fight with Arthur whilst he waits for his title shot.

i am told this fight is going on in leeds on feb 9. Leeds Town Hall and will be on sky tv.

I think Johanneson wil take it in a close affair..very close - He looks to be a bit more complete than Burns, but then again I think Burns has the better workrate.

It's a good fight and credit to both men for getting it on.
