Maccarinelli misses out on Haye

WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli's planned clash with David Haye in April will not go ahead, promoter allegedly has confirmed.

Maccarinelli signed the contract before the 7 January deadline set by Haye's camp, but Warren said the Londoner's team then changed their demands.

"We worked hard to get this on and it's been one big waste of time," he said.

"It is clear to me that Haye never intended to go through with this fight in the first place."

Warren had planned to have the much-anticipated meeting on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe's WBO super-middleweight title defence against Peter Manfredo in Manchester on 7 April.

Maccarinelli is still expected to defend his title on that bill before hopefully facing the winner of the fight between WBA and WBC champion O'Neil Bell and Jean-Marc Mormeck.

No-one from Haye's camp was available to comment on Warren's allegations.

I can't believe this. I was really looking forward to this fight as well. Whoever was responsible for scuppering this fight should be ashamed of themselves. Be that Haye or Macarinellis camp. Damn I hate boxing sometimes. I knew there was something suspicious going on when reading that Macarinelli had already signed for the fight. Just seemed to good to be true.

for something to be 'off' that was never definately 'on' is not something that we should lose sleep over.

its all very predictable really.

I guess your right but for some reason I just thought that for once this fight would happen. Give the public what they want to see for once. Its quite frustrating.

The inability of the top promoters to make logical, interesting match ups is one of the reasons my interest in boxing is on the wane.

Why could the two camps not reach agreement here?? Its the fight that both camps need as a spring board into world class. Completely unforgiveable.

Is there a more frustrating sport than professional boxing?

No I don't believe there is. The only sport I can think of where the best don't actually have to compete against each other (ever). You could make an argument for not even calling it a sport.

When will thy learn? thou shall not have good fight on Fwank Warren promotion.

i dont believe its definately off, enzo is in training and wants the fight, haye has gone to miami and wants the fight.

long time between now and april.

warrens NOTW column (written a few days ago i admit) says the fight is nearly on.

i just think the latest saga is the promoters/camps winding each other up as the battle for financial supremacy continues. looks like the fight is definately on a warren show and on itv so thats the biggest 2 stumbling blocks out of the way.

just seems like its financial demands. so throw 300K into the kitty, and split it 60/40 winner/loser.

Haye camp replies:

"We have in writing a faxed offer for a one-fight deal which we accepted.

"However, Frank later withdrew that offer and proposed a number of options which were totally unacceptable.

If thats the case why doesn't somebody at ITV flex their muscles and give Frank some 'encouragement' to agree terms and stop pissing about. As far as I can see they could be the deciding factor here. Lets face it ITV can't be happy with the majority of rubbish on THEIR channels can they?

I can't see why Haye would turn it down, he's not going to fight against anyone else in the cruiser division for more money, and i just can't see him being a hit in the heavies.

At least we still get the 2 genuine best fighters at cruiserweight facing off against each other, with the winner having to face Haye.

Allegedly...you are a pudendum pure and simple.Hope your boy Enzo drops his paper title to the next scrub he has to face.

I don't know what happened.

But I doubt Haye priced himself out.

He's been trying to get the top fights and would look a twat if it was his fault.

Macca's no champion. He took the backdoor route to the title - he beat a flabby late notice sub called Heiniken and all of a sudden he was atop the WBO wankings.

Ok, it wasn't his fault Nelson got injured and "broke down" the 2nd time. But we all knew Johnny didn't want the fight; he wanted a pension fight vs a big name like Michalczewski & was probably glad whe he got injured.

Macca's welcome to his WBO title. Haye should go for the real thing. A win would make Warren look a fool; a loss would be 100x more admirable than what the WBO have in store.

Bell is promoted by one of those Indian tribal outfits. They lack clout outside of their Florida hovel, and if Bell beats Mormeck, who knows we could have aWBC title fight in England.

was looking forward to this fight. It would have justified the ridculas ticket prices for this bill.

Here's the top ratings for Enzo's WBO crown.

What does everyone think is next for Enzo - Cantatore maybe?

Enzo's a good fighter, but I almost want Vadim Tokarev to rise up the rankings and give him a hiding.

Tokarev could be the future of the division and would butcher a lot of the 200-pounders of today. He's skilled, tough and coming off a fight of the year (2006) near-worthy KO of Felix Cora Jr.

1 Fiarat Aslan
2 Pietro Aurino
3 Haye
4 Vincenzo Cantatore
5 Jm Mormeck
6 Jonathon Banks
7 Nicolay Popov
8 Vadim Tokarev
9 Mauro Ordiales
10 Marco Huck
11 Giocabbe Fragomeni
12 Emmanuel Nwodo
13 Gregory Drozd
14 Laudelino Barros
15 Bobby Gunn

Barros is my bet for the april fight

Sounds like Enzo/Warren chickened out of the deal, despite his media backed smokescreens.

Enzo is a PAPER champion, and obviously wants to stay that way.

Good luck to him, but no-one's gonna be watching - ITV take note.

It's obvious Warren has no confidence in his man and so tried to wangle in a load of options on Haye. Absolutely typical of the man, no-one should be even slightly surprised.

It's a shame ITV don't jump over Warren and publicly announce an offer of 100K to each boxer. It should be law that these hidden terms and conditions are made transparent to everyone, in order to dissuade boxers from ducking.

It's too easy to preserve respect by just blaming missed fights on the other camp.

No way is Macca a chicken, the dispute is between Warren and Haye's people, looking at it Warren wants options on Haye in case he wins. Which is pretty standard when someone is the challenger to a title.

Macca's definitely not a chicken, nor is he a pussy - he has shown his mettle against Scott, Hobson 1 and Dominguez. But Warren is placing too much stock in him. Every publication and website has Haye above WBO king Macca. It looks bad that Warren CANNOT, WILL NOT deal with other promoters. ITV are partly to blame - WTF did they do an exclusive contract with Fwank? Well, ITV, I hope you are pleased with the infrequent schedule, frequent pullouts, and handful of good fights over a whole year!

Sky were fed up with Warren mid 2005. I heard they weren't pleased with what they were getting. ITV must know something is not right - or are they placing too much hope on the young shoulders of Khan and Kevin Mitchell? Do they not care that the best contests aren't happening?

It's just not clever having one promoter MONOPOLISING a whole TV station. It seriously reduces the amount of fights that can be made.

Boxing is wank

It's Warrens fault if he's insisting on options on Haye.I suspect from the very start Warren had no intentions of letting the fight happen

I am happy to believe Warren is the one who has derailed this fight. His fighter Macarinelli has just collected his beloved WBOgus title. It would be so unWarren like to stick him straight into his first defence where there is AT LEAST a 50% chance of him getting spectacularly knocked out inside the opening two or three rounds.
