I would love to know ITV's policy with regard to options. I mean, did they demand options on Audley Harrison?

Also, I thought options were an agreement to stage the fight, not broadcast it. How could they get an option on broadcasting it, if they have an exclusive contract with Sports Network, surely this means they are requesting options on behalf of Sports Network as you cannot broadcast a fight if you have no contract with the fighters promoter to show said fight.

Hi ITV Boxing I am extremely disappointed to see that allegedly has refused to stage the mega-fight between David Haye and Enzo Maccarinelli, unless he can have options on Hayes future fights. Which Frank along with the rest of the boxing fraternity knows will stop the fight going ahead. Sky TV were willing to allow their star to fight on ITV for 1 fight, the money was agreed by both fighters, but at the last minute Frank has scuppered the fight by insisting that he should be involved in Hayes future fights Haye Vs Enzo is one of the most exciting fights in World boxing, both are reaching the very top of the Cruiserweight division and both are exciting fighters who hold phenomenal power, the fight is guarenteed to end with a KO. I'd like to thank and congratulate ITV for getting back into boxing, but I just think that the coverage and popularity could/would be so much better if massive fights such as Enzo-Haye were being shown. This fight is comparable to Eubank-Benn and is a classic Battle Of Britain match-up Yours Frustratedly Stuart Chambers

The boxing world has now been informed (see below link) that it was ITV who have scuppered this mega-fight between David Haye and Enzo Maccarinelli, by insisting on further options on Hayes career which are unrealistic and make the fight impossible to make, could somebody confirm if this is true?

Fights like this come along once in a blue moon, this is a fight that would divide the nation and create enormous exposure.

Pros for the fights
Its a marketing dream, both are reasonably well known to the nation, both are young and are approaching the very top of the division, both are massive punchers, both have reported weaknesses, there aren't many fights that you can guarentee will be won by KO, but this is one (everybody loves a knockout). Its England Vs Wales and the fight is pretty much a 50-50
contest, which is very rare in this day and age. Look no further than the contest between Calzaghe and Manfredo, it's going to be a boring one-sided affair where everybody knows who wins, where as nobody in the world can predict who wins out of Haye and Enzo, with any degree of certainty.

Cons for the fights
There aren't any, this is fight of the century

If this fight doesn't happen in April then it never happens as Haye has to move upto HW soon as he really struggles to make the 200lb limit.

Please make this fight happen ITV (you won't regret it)

Showtime seems to function perfectly well without the need for 'options' on every fighter.

Haye v Macca should be an even, competitive fight between the two domestic best at the same stage in their careers. All this options nonsence in BS

Multi-fight deals between broadcasters and fighters are not good for the sport.

Your affiliation with ITV somewhat taints your comments Bennie, I'm afraid I think we will have to take them with a pinch of salt. I don't believe you seriously think that it is right for ITV to insist on those terms.

In any case, I thought it was Warren who insisted on the multi fight options? Do ITV even have enough dates available to start throwing around multi fight contracts?

Just Wrote to them:

Dear Sirs, I am very displeased with the quality of your boxing programming. ITV could probably double their viewing figures with some quite simple policy changes.

I am angry that ITV have helped MR Warren short change the public and ITV themselves by standing in the way of the Haye-Maccarinelli fight. This fight would be a great advert for ITVs boxing coverage and millions of viewers would anticipate it and tune in giving far better viewing figures than Warrens usual rubbish would.

I am very displeased that you have allowed your supplier (allegedly) of boxing to short change you and the fans with a very poor product. By letting him put together such poor match ups ITV simply aren't maximising the a viewers it

ITV is not getting World Title fights from Mr Warren. WBO/WBU/IBO are not real world titles. The quality level of these match ups are below that of British title fights.

ITV may think they can fool the public with a poor product. If they put they're foot down and demanded a quality product from Mr Warren - ie DEMAND he makes the best fights, starting with Haye-Maccarinelli. Don't accept WBO/WBU/IBO as world title fights in his TV contract

Also why does Mr Warren get an exclusive TV deal with this rubbish. Britain has genuine World Champions like Junior Witter and Clinton Woods that will give great fights (fighting the best unlike Warrens lot) and have great skill and probably would not cost less than Mr Warrens deal. If ITV offered a fight by fight basis it could pick and choose which Warren fights it wanted (while demanding the best) and choose the best fights from other promoters.

If ITV doesn't know which fights are good and which are not - I have to question if they do with the rubbish they accept from MR Warren. Come to a boxing forum like the ones on http://www.Boxrec.com and http://www.eastsideboxing.com and ask which match ups boxing fans are most excited about involving British or even none British fighters

Yes he said he was badly let down by David Haye for not accepting a five fight deal, which apparently was "the only way Haye could get the purse he wanted"

Maybe. But Warren said that negotiations had already gone way beyond a 'one off' fight, and he wouldn't backtrack. That negotiations had already reached a particular stage then Booth changed his mind on the options bit.

It's just a tad rich for the habitually inactive Bell to be saying that this fight should happen for the good of the sport, and that there aren't enough glamorous boxing shows. How's about the best fighter in this division actually fighting more than once every 18 months. I'd consider that to be "good for the sport".

Well I did write to ITV and got a reply in less than an hour - They said they too would like to see the Haye v Enzo fight come off - They say they have a contract with allegedly and SN and play no part in who fights who - Mr Warren negotiates with the fighters and presents a bill to ITV that they hope will attract good audiences - Lets hope as ITV do Mr Warren has some good bills for us to watch this year and lets hope we dont have fighters pulling out or being pulled out of fights at the last moment - By the way I suggested Calzage v Froch as well - That would be a cracker if ITV, Warren and the two fighters could all be in agreement - Personally I see the fight being on the same bill as Hatton v Witter - Haye will move up to HW, lose fights and drop back down to CW and then maybe the fight with Enzo could just happen - Calzaghe will have the fights that reward him best and then retire so a fight with Froch is very unlikely - Hatton v Witter could happen if they both get losses - Thats the way I see it but boxing is so unpredictable who really knows - So its not down to ITV, Its Frank we have to rely on so lets hope he does his job well - If he dissapoints us then he will ITV so boxing could be axed yet again - He has to get the exciting matchups we all want to see and obviously he knows that - Yes, Amir Khan pulls an audience but you cant rely on him alone - We need edge of the seat fights for boxing to survive on ITV so we must all hope Frank does the business and does it well.

No way do I see Warren working with Hennessy or giving an opportunity to a Hennessy fighter to take on someone like Calzaghe, it's just not going to happen.

This is the single biggest stumbling block in boxing, the fact that promoters rarely work together on a show, or even allow a rival promoters fighters from the same country get a look in against their top fighters.
