What route will Hatton take?

...if he is successful against Urango and Castillo?

I don't see a clear route, personally. Unless he has rematch-worthy wars with Urango and Castillo, or if he loses and has a rematch.

Because right now, 140 is unfashionable and welters might be too big.

Mayweather will be hard to dictate terms to if he beats DLH.

Cotto might be best avoided, because he looked a destroyer against Quintana.

Anyone reckon Ricky will try and clean up 140, i.e. WBA champ Mbaye and WBC champ Witter?

Is there a potential super glamour fight somewhere, that I've overlooked?

If Hatton beats both Urango and Castillo, thats his HOF spot sewn up.
Maybe Floyd(if he beats DLH of course)would consider coming back down for a showdown, should Ricky do a number on Castillo.... :-?
If not,Ricky should aim to unify the division,Witter and M'Baye(imagine the options Warren would want on Hatton, should he beat the 'world champ' M'Baye!!)

I see Hatton-M'baye smewhere down the line. Warren has a grip on the MEN arena, but no doubt Hatton will be desperate to fill out that arena again. It brings the best out of him, that plus it being a unification...

I doubt Mayweather will see 140 again after moving up to 154 now to fight DLH. I think Hatton would move up again to fight Mayweather who's not exactly big at 147.

Do you think it is time Hatton kept hold of one of his titles? If so, he could be facing another unfashionable mandatory - Lovemore Ndou or Ben Rabah.

I don't reckon HBO would approve anyone with a funny name or a dull style

Well '07 is pretty much sewn up. Hopefully he'll have 3 fights given his first is this month.

Jan: Urango. A clear but not pretty UD for Hatton there imo.
Summer: JLC hopefully.
Winter: The boring mandatory most probably. As stu says, Ndou or Ben Rabah.

Hopefully then a unification if he stays at 140. It is by no means the be all and end all - JLC is better than M'Baye or Witter, but undoubtedly there's more to both these fights, what with the UK and Warren angle. Don't forget useful banger Torres as well (WBO)

Forgot that Torres was WBO champ. He might get a fight on the strength of his Cotto war. Never mind that he was apparently lucky to get by Arnaoutis and is a level below Witter and M'baye.

I think Mbaye would make one hell of a fight for Hatton. He's slick, has a decent punch, good fighter to watch.

Hatton has said after Castillo it's back up to welter but with far better preparation, which is of course the right thing to do but i'd love to see him squeeze Witter in before he goes if Junior can beat the Harris/Lazcano winner

If he has a hard time vs Urango and Castillo I doubt he goes to welter. As much as I respect Hatton, I think Cotto's all wrong for him and could rip him open...Mayweather won't happen, he'll be hard to deal with after the DLH fight

I totally agree with you.

I'd rule out a move back up to welter unless he can tempt Mayweather, which I think is a very slim possibility. For that fight to be made he has to not only beat Urango and Castillo, but absolutely batter them both in fight of the year contenders. Only that will create any sort of clamour from the US for a match with Mayweather. The likes of Margarito, Williams, and Cotto will just be too strong for him based on his average showing against Collazo.

Down at light welter, there really is no star quality coming through at all. If I were him I'd look to hang on to the IBF, then see about Witter and M'baye. There really seems to be little else for him. Maybe the improving Hopkins, or Malignaggi (depending on his hands, and how he comes back from the brave defeat to Cotto), could provide interesting matches, but there's few real options that I can see. There isn't even a current lightweight that could move up and make some waves.

After having given my crystal ball a rub, I say he ends up fighting Corrales this year.

Big money, the guy will stand & trade with him & it's a deffo winnable fight that I believe people will give him kudos for -- based on the ol' styles make fights chestnut -- despite Chico's lamentable showing against El Cepito.

Hatton KO8 if it happens.

Not something I want to see but there you go -- I just think for all the talk the risk/reward ratio has to make it viable what with Corrales being an easy sell to the British public; he's a light-welter even when he's a lightweight & as everone else has said, Hatton's lack of viable opposition at 140...

Hmm, not heard anything from Corrales since he failed to make weight.

Would be interesting to see him fight at 140 before taking on Hatton, he could either benefit massively from the extra weight, or he may be far too vulnerable. He's such a huge guy to be fighting so low.

castillo and corrales in one year? who said hatton fought nobodies? theres your bloody legacyright there, them two and tyszu.

btw Ring magazine mentions that Hatton wants Urango, Castillo and PBF to be his 3 for the year

I think the chance to fight Floyd has come and gone now. I suspect Floyd is going to lose to Oscar though, which could change everything.

Interestingly, in a recent interview at Secondsout.com, Lennox Lewis said that he thought that Oscar had 'no chance' against Mayweather. Has he seen something we haven't? Is this another case of a fighter making a very bad judge of other fighters.

I initially thought Mayweather would beat DLH surprisingly easily, but as time has gone on, and the fact that it is at 154 was announced, I've found myself leaning very much to the side of a DLH win. Oscar is surely going to be too strong for Floyd at the weight?

Remember reading an older article saying Corrales is going to Welterweight.

Oscar's getting a beating against Floyd. You can;t fight once a year for someone like Floyd.

well said. PBF would have trouble with Hatton cos Hatton would just take it to him and reduce his mobility with body shots. not saying thats the be all and end of of it, but its one thing i consider likely to occur

At 154, 147 and 140, Oscar is a far bigger puncher than Floyd, you have to go back to his days at 135 and below to see Floyd as a puncher, and even then, he never had the one shot power Oscar did.

I cannot see how Floyd can possibly put a dent of any kind in Oscar, who has a granite chin. Look at the shots Mosley unloaded on Oscar, and Oscar just stood toe to toe taking them and dishing shots out.

Of course, Oscar's timing could be crucial, but even if it is off, I think he is going to catch Floyd a few times, and has the experience and the speed of hand to make him pay when he does.

As I have said before I think DLH v PBF could be a real anticlimax, simply because of the tactics that PBF will undoubtedly employ to pickpocket his way to victory. Will it work? I doubt it but then again stranger things have happened.

The thought that PBF puts a beating on DLH has good comedic value though Max.

Terence wrote:Floyd cannot block De La Hoya's shots on the ropes without risking everything, so he won't do that. He cannot do a Baldomir on Oscar because Oscar will close the distance and if he does do that type of fight Floyd will literally have to run from one side of the ring to the other.

You don't beat Floyd by fighting once a year? You do not beat Oscar by fighting two duds in a year and having to use hit and leg it tactics against a fighter as limited as Baldomir.

Floyd is a special talent but he is unlikely to give anyone a true beating at the higher weights. He either has to engage or stink the place out.
Oscar could be well past It now as well and he's only had one fight in two years. Judah and Baldomir are better than Mayorga too.

I agree Floyd can be troubled on the ropes though, he avoids fighting close to them.

But I think Floyd will be beating on a past It DLH.

Only thing Corrales did since was sign with Golden Boy, egged on by Mosley & his wag, and then get very embarrassed when he found out he still owed Shaw a fight.
