Man i LOVE watching this guy against a guy who took forward steps, but hate watching him against a guy who took backward steps. I'm from Canada and im just wondering what you guys thought of him in UK, as a boxer?

I love his fight with Denys Cronin, Cronin tried jumping him but Eubanks shows fabulous skills with his punch picking and stays cool as a cucumber-behind the poses and boos is alot of substance here, takes the poor guy apart with every punch in the book

I also love his great 1990 championship win over Nigel Benn, Eubanks looked too tight at the weight and much sloppier than usual but his ring generalship and movement was so good that night, stayed one step ahead of Benn all the time

In the bouts against Tony Thornton and Juan Carlos Giminez you saw some marvelous ring generalship again, and some great handspeed came off early on against pressure fighting Thornton and Giminez struggled to get past the jab alnight

It seemed the only way was to stay on top of him for 3 mins of each round to not allow him the breaks he needed, i think he kind of gave up in the 2nd fight with Watson but in the first few rounds there Watson dragged better work out of Eubanks than the whole 10 rounds against Dan Sherry who moved away from him

He did lack workrate and stamina but if he didnt have to go looking for his opponent he flourished, like in the 1st fight with the Irish guy Close and against Wharton, guys who went straight ahead brought some great skills out of him, although he could be outworked

If you didn't go at him he kind of lunged in with single leads alnight, usually just jabs, and used reflexes to get his chin out of harms way. and it just wasn't good stuff to watch. But going at him, that was some task

His name IS EubankS ya muppet, back in the 90's a mate of mine was shagging a bird in that was related to him and her Sir name is Eubanks with the S.

Also Goznold SPOCK WAS a Doctor, because he used to heel people.

His mane is Eubanks,but Chris himself changed it to Eubank.
Maybe it's to do with him re-inventing himself during his late teens,early twenties.
Generally,most people call him Eubank.

I stand corrected and actually think i may have heard this before too. However I don't think the original poster was coming from a point of historical geneological accuracy but you never know...

His brothers Simon and Peter fought under their original surname of Eubanks but Chris changed his to Eubank. I remember Jim McDonald in the old Screensport days was always calling him EubankS.

Plenty of fighters change their names for the ring, either by obligation or for other reasons. Remember old Slugger O’Toole and Paddy Reilly out of the Ingle camp??
Michael Gomez, Steve Spartacus being some of the more colourful recent name changes in Britain but there are literally hundreds.

Chris really looked the business back in the day, when he started on ProBox/ScreenSport/Eurosport he seemed something special in terms of actual skill, he wasn't on ITV then it was Eurosport I watched him - the fights were Malek, Camara, Melfah, Cronin, Corti and Contreras.

What drummed up the Benn fight was the hands-down gesturing as he asked the referee to stop the fight against Milo (who was cut up and rocked back in the ropes), and the genious camera positioning after the stunning 20-second KO of Dos Santos. The Milo and Dos Santos fights were shown on ITV and the Benn contract signed soon after (on Midweek Sport Special - that was legendary, Eubank refusing to look at Benn), when all the mind games started and fascinating build-up, the public became fascinated with Eubank in the lead-up to the fight.

I think the only other of Eubank's fights on ITV before Milo and Dos Santos was the Anthony Logan fight (on a Nigel Benn undercard), that's when the Benn/Eubank rivalry started because after watching Benn's fight with Logan a 10-0 Eubank had been telling boxing press people he could take Benn. They gave him the Logan fight in the hope of shutting him up, but despite being a novice he won every round of the war with Logan if I remember and impressed.

He kind of changed his boxing style (and even his attributes) for the Benn fight, in the Malek, Camara, Melfah, Cronin, Corti and Contreras fights I remember he was very much the thinking man's boxer - wouldn't throw a punch unless he knew it would land, gliding about in front of his opponent, and possessed impressive technique.. actually worked up-close more (sweet hook and even sweeter uppercut) after either working his way in with a stiff little jab or just timing his way in with a little weave, but when he had his man in trouble he'd try not to let them off the hook. But against Benn, his technique didn't seem the same, and he'd been working on stretching with a martial arts guy from NY he called 'Doctor' and also his assistant manager John Regan made a swingball device for his reflexes, he just seemed to box even looser against Benn, checking and countering, just very loose. But it did work.

It's a shame he never boxed like he did in those earlier Eurosport fights again, I don't know why but he seemed to get worse. I've heard countless times that he absolutely wrecked himself to make weight, both at 160 and 168, and was really a light-heavy by 91 and a big light-heavy by 93. He definitely seemed to become 'over-muscled', esp in the back/shoulder area, but the strange thing is he says he never touched weights?!

After the Corti fight, Eubank was supposed to be using Contreras as a warm-up for fighting either Mike McCallum for the WBA title or Julian Jackson for the vacant WBC title. I don't know what happened there. But after Benn-Barkley, the Eubank camp centered their attentions to Benn. I don't think any of the other leading middleweights in the world wanted anything to do with Eubank, and it took paying Benn a tonne of money to just get Benn in the ring.

He dropped the 's' because he just wanted to be called Eubank and not Eubanks like his brothers Peter and Simon. Countless Boxers have changed or altered the spelling of there names for many reasons Rocky Marciano, Tony Zale, Joe Louis, Ray Robinson, Dick Tiger, Ike Williams, Jersey Joe Wallcott the list is endless it's up to the individual what name they wish to be known by.

So as far as I am concerned it's EUBANK.

A real golden age for British boxing. Benn, Eubank and Watson were probably the three most talented fighters Britiain has ever produced fighting at the same time and at the same weight. That all 3 were not only great fighters but real warriors as well made it that much more special.
