Pac-Chi

Anyone excited about this? April 28 in China. Should be on HBO.
Everyone says Chi is shopworn, but I don't even think he deserved to lose to Koshimoto. Then he outslugged Kopshimoto's conqueror Lopez. Lopez is 10 years younger than Chi.
Should be a good war with Pac. Chi is a big feather and could probably do with a move up in weight. I'm eager to see what Pac can do with someone that he doesn't badly hurt in the first 4 rds. His best showings came when he hurt his men early - Morales 2, 3, MAB - but Chi is a major hard nut.
I'll never forget his 1st fight with Brodie.

Have Chi's great fight with Brodie on tape and yes he is a tough bastard but he can also be outworked especially by Pacquiao's body shots.
Decent fight but I think it's almost a forgone conclusion.
Chi likes a good scrap, he's not going to out muscle Pacquiao.

There were more fights at 130 I'd rather see than a 26 pounder coming up. Tough kid, but his skill set is nothing on Pac. I would've rather seen Valero or Guzman in there. After all the talk between those two or JMM or MAB, this is an extreme let down.

I don't see it as a letdown. Chi's coming off what's been declared a fight of the year style win over a much improved Lopez, ten years his junior. The Korean is also a current title holder (WBC feather), doesn't get pushed around by anyone, and is a massive feather who seems to have been struggling to make 126. An all action brawl, between a certain Hall of Famer and a hard headed, leather slinging warrior. Bring it on, I say.
Sure, Chi is no Myung Woo-Yuh or Tokuyama (great, skilled, long term champions from Korea), but it still will be good.
Certainly a better matchup than the Larios one - Larios had been looking shopworn starting from the McCullough fights and I worried what impact he could make at 130.

Could be a really great fight. Chi doesn't come to make up the numbers... having said that; he's not hard to find, or hit. Good test for Pacquiao's power too, Chi has a great chin.

What I like about Chi is that he doesn't even try to avoid shots when the battles get heated. He just throws mad counters that end up countering the other guy and hurting him more. Although he has smartened up somewhat.
I think Chi has been underrated for his fights this year. Asia has hosted some shit hot fights in the lower weights.

Chis not too skilled and isn't too fast so Pac should easily beat him to the punch, its a matter of if Chi can get his own shots off or if Pacs just too fast or relentless or powerful for him. I'd expect Chi to come to life at this weight though as hes far too big for 126, hes Harrison sized.

Pac was really at his best when he badly hurt Barrera and Morales early, and it was one way traffic after that. (JM Marquez breaks this rule, who came back brilliantly.) Chi will take hard shots early, but Pac might not react so well if he can't get him out of there, and may end up up surprised by Chi's strength inside. I reckon Chi might have some exciting mid rounds success. Though I don't think Chi'll win in should be a fight worth seeing.

How can you say that this fight is a letdown. Pac has already fought and beat Barrera convincingly. Also JMM can't moan about not getting a shot, he was offered a rematch ages ago, but turned it down because he wanted more money, he then blew it by losing to Chris John.
Anyway JMM is boxing Barrera in March, so let Pac fight the winner of that.
Chi is never in a bad fight, win or lose. So this will have fireworks all the way.

I felt the Larios fight was a letdown, but no way is Chi.
Pac is WBC mandatory so he gets the winner. When the contract tug of war is sorted Pac and the WBC champion must get it on. If not, pac either loses his rating or the champ is stripped.
Finkel said both contracts are void anyway, GBP want to get this sorted as quickly as possible & Pac seems to be leaning toward Arum.
If the bullshit does go on, there's always Klassen and Valero who have titles and want to fight him.

Paquiao should have signed with Golden Boy, shame he was swayed by the jingle of the cash register. I think Chi is a good opponent for him considering some of the names Boxing News were banding about, i had heard of one i think.
Hopefully the winner will square off with the winner of Barrera-JMM which i tentatively go with Marquez by the way.
I wasn't disappointed with the Larios fight either for Pacquiao, i think Larios is a solid, warrior and former world champion. Especially seen as it was a sort of home coming exhibition for Pacquiao i think we could have seen a real sacrificial lamb in there, at least Larios always comes to have a go.

It's a let down because Joan Guzman and Edwin Valero are both out there to fight, and instead of negotiations with them, he goes after a 26 pounder. Sure, Manny has had some great fights, but his last three are a worn out Larios, a SHOT Morales, and now a 126 pounder coming up to his first bout at 130. You bring up names he's fought, and that's the exact reason it's a let down. I'm not saying Chi sucks, but as said, he's not excessively skilled, and Manny won't have to go looking for him. Manny hasn't fought a pure boxer since JMM, and after watching that fight, there's a reason.

I reckon there'll be difficulties getting GBP fighters until we know more about where Pac stands promotionally. So Guzman might have an asterisk next to his name right now.
If Pac keeps on having exciting wins in Asia, who knows, maybe they can get Valero - it's possible, but would US TV shy away from it?
I do agree, we want to see Pac in with the exciting, excitable, fresher elite of 130. But Chi is a bloody hard case and will look a lot bigger than pac on fight night -Chi was probably a natural 130 three years ago.
I give Pac credit though, because from rd 12 of Morales 1 through the 2nd fight, Manny finished Morales as a top level fighter. I didn't want the third fight, but it was exciting. MAB if more appetising, because of the great comeback he's made, but right now the WBC is tied up.

You can't ever blame any boxer for chasing the cash. Especially when one punch can put even the best fighter in a wheelchair for life... or worse.
I think you're right about the Larios fight; clearly a (good quality) warm-up just to keep Pacquiao ticking over.
As for Valero and Guzman. I think not being able to stage the Valero fight in the US handicaps that match-up. Maybe a deal has already been done for summer/autumn and the Chi fight is another warm-up.

Well, if this is a warm up, it's a bloody lively one.
Chi's been having life or death struggles with the scales for some time now. He's absolutely massive at the weight, and could well benefit from a move up a few pounds.
I've not seen any of Chi's fights since the Brodie ones, and I'd heard he looked a bit vulnerable against Brown was it? He's always been a little vulnerable to the body, but I say that relatively speaking, as he took an absolute gutful from Brodie, but Brodie eventually got tired from hitting him in the belly and ribs, and then Chi just got off the ropes and beat him up.
Chi is going to come looking for Pacman, but I doubt if even Chi's chin can absorb the sort of furious pounding Manny is going to dish out. Interesting while it lasts, but a 8-9th round KO for Pacman.

I remember how big Chi looked in the Brodie rematch. He looked like Alex Arthur does now - like a big super feather.
I think being at 130lbs will unleash something in Chi - it can be a great fight but Pac is shit hot right now and should win.
If Chi loses a competitive fight, even a great fight, he loses nothing (apart from a few miles). I mean, he'll still be WBC feather champ.

Absolutely no complaints from me.
This should be a fierce match up

i would have preferred to see pac vs guzman or valero.
but chi is one of my favourite fighters in the lower weight classes, so he'll do nicely.

Can't fight in the US, so why not host it in Macau, where he can fight, and where Manny is already lined up to fight?

Yes, exactly, a fight in the Phillipines or China would be massive. There's do doubt a big enough fan base to take the fight to south east asia.

Not sure about vulnerable James but Chi was definately confused at times by Browne's Boxing, however when it came down to it he nearly had the Aussie stopped. Typically tough Australian as Browne hung in there. Against Koshimoto he just started slowly and paid the price as the Japanese southpaw racked up the early rounds, some still make a case for Chi winning. Not seen his fight with Rudy Lopez but i did see Lopez winning the title off Koshimoto and to be honest i expected Chi to beat the Mexican who has a good right hook but is technically basic and just beat Koshimoto on superior fitness

That's my take on it all.

great match up this one - i go with pac in a thrilla by late stoppage . could be fight of the year
