hard to say.hagler was never cleanly knocked down, but he never fought heavyweights either.
i'd have to give them both props for two of the best sets of whiskers in history.

Toney's been in there we the bigger guys tho.

Tough to say.

Hagler was never legitimately floored, but even Toney's knockdowns have an element of doubt to them, particularly the Jones Jr knockdown, where he was off balance more than anything.

Toney has also gone all the way up HW without any trouble.

I'm going with Hagler because of the flush punches he took from two of the hardest p4p punchers, Hearns & Mugabi without even blinking.

Toney has proven it from 160 up.
Not to say Marvin didn't have a great chin.

Unfair question.

If pushed you have to take Toney though.

Um, okay. You've never seen the Reggie Johnson fight?
Yes, but I was talking about the Jones Jr fight.

I am not wrong, I meant to say SOME.

I am grown & I am still learning thankyou.

I'd say Toney might edge out Hagler based on the entire body of work but you can make just as good a case for Hagler. Toney has a lot more fights and a bigger body of work against bigger guys. It's hard to template that against Hagler's career but it comes out pretty close I suppose.

Like Marciano that big looming "0" of Hagler's befuddles the computers and math minded accountants but you can not run with that alone. More Exposure at higher weight classes factored in brings Toney back to near equity or above if you factor in high interest rates and inflation.

(Alan Greespan is a boxing fan...I checked with him on this)

I'll Take Hagler Sure the HW's hit harder but they are no where Near Hearns punching ability their not like Hearns they don't have the speed, skills. and accuracy to be called great punchers..

Has any other fighter that started out at MW been the distance with someone as strong and powerful as Sam Peter? Its an amazing effort from Toney.
At MW Hagler had the better chin, he never went down. Toney got knocked down by Jones at 168, I dont see Jones ever knockin Hagler down, nor any middleweight/ super middleweight.
Toney is probably the bigger man physically than Hagler, hence his success in the HW division. Also hes technically far superior than the current crop of heavies

But Reggie Johnson wasn't known as a big puncher.
