Great fight for the Dudley man if it has been made.

Remember, he is managed by Dean Powell, the SN match maker - he wouldnt be putting his charge in this fight if he didnt think he was ready for such a test.

I take McDermott to use his high volume, long range punching to bust up the welshman and win a decision - thats IF he can handle Lockett's undoubted power.

Tom will have the inside line on this, as always. I for one hope the fight is signed and sealed! :TU:

Yes, this fight will happen in April – injuries permitting. Of course, McDermott has to win his British title eliminator in January first, but then he'll fight for the WBU middleweight title against Lockett.

Macca was told he'd have to wait anything up to a year for his British title chance if he won the eliminator (much like another Midlander, Wayne Elcock) but it is still a title he is desperate to have soon. A win over a good fighter like Lockett, he hopes, will move him into that fight sooner.

I've said for a while that Darren needs a fight like this to show everyone how good he is. And I certainly echo what ‘TerribleTerry’ says, his high volume, long range punching will bust up the Welshman.

Darren has proven himself to have a decent chin when i have seen him sparring or in a real fight. But, as people have mentioned, Lockett can whack and will be a true test of the Black Country fighter’s chin.

Cracking fight for Darren, can't wait to see him in action

WBU title

What surprise that is......not ! Mind you, SN matches fall apart as quickly as they're made so you never know.

McDermott's people have to do right by him and I dare say it will be a very good purse.

If Darren wins the belt don't expect him to defend it. His ambition is still the Lonsdale belt. Besides, a WBU title fight wouldn’t be well received at the Dudley Town Hall! His promoter, PJ Rowson, wants him to go the British title route.

'Macca' sees it as a means to an end. And, as i've said earlier, he was told he'd have to wait anything up to a year for a shot at the British title - he wasn’t particularly happy so he’s going to explore other avenues then go back to the British. Of course he has to beat Rhodes first, but he should win that one with something to spare.

However, if he can add the scalps of Darren Rhodes and Gary Lockett to his ledger in the next four or five months then he'll be in a very healthy position in the British ratings, and even find himself ahead of near-rival Wayne Elcock.

He'd love nothing more.

I hear what your saying, but this is back-tracking somewhat from your recent posts.

Hopefully it will work itself out, but if Powell's derailed from the route McDermott thought he was on once, it can easily happen again......and again etc.

Moving to the fight with Lockett, i reckon Darren's in with a good chance with what he brings to the table. The doubts I have is McDermott's looked good beating Area level boxers like Halder, Monaghan and Osman but it will interesting to see if he can cut it at Lockett's level. The fact of the matter is, Darren hasn't faced a single "puncher" yet, so although he looks tough in the chin area, it hasn't been tested.

I would imagne FWANKY would have got some kind of guarantee or possible options on Mcdermott and that will mean he defends the belt if he wins it?.

The latest on McDermott and his eliminator with Rhodes (which is due to be televised) from Tom Podmore:

http://www.britishboxing.net/news_2031- ... mself.html

make sure you watch the fight and see for yourself if McDermott is 'the goods' (as many of us midlanders just think he might be)

Quite suprised you're all betting against Lockett...?

Reckon Lckett will back him up, and put him to sleep. Easy nights work, and another example of his poor management. It's as if they are bringing every hope they can find to beat Gary. If they promote him properly he could go on alot further than the likes of Williams and Elcock.

Not sure about the result of this one due to never having seen McDermott fight but Lockett has power at domestic level for certain so don't know why he is wasting his time with the WBU shit. Maybe he isn't as good as once thought. However great to hear some Black Country chanting going round :box: :TU:

We will see mate - I admit Lockett's power could be the equaliser, but I think Dean Powell has seen just about enough Lockett fights to know if his own charge would stand a chance - don't you?

Yeah right, we'll see. Powell is a bald twat!

Steve, it aint like Lockett is in charge of his route, he's basically going the only way open to him. They throw him mediocre opponents, for mediocre titles. He'll Smash McDermott, and rather than push him on for something better, they'll just try and groom someone elso to beat him.... whom he'll smash again. You may not think he's as good as once thought, but how the hell is he meant to motivate himself for the shite they put him in with!?!?!?!? They've wasted a proper prospect away on a shelf.

He's moving gyms again now, so hopefully he'll get some better oppertunities.

Yuri Tsarenko.

I have always thought that if Lockett was as good as some of you boyos claimed he was gonna be, he wouldnt have had his faced half caved in by that fighter.

Lol, that was nearly 4 years ago, and Gary's won every fight ever since.

Shit, loads of other fighters have been forgiven for alot worse.

Elcock KO'd by a bum,
Farnell by Loads,
Williams and Dann stopped.

The list is endless. Lockett shows guts, and I mean real guts by fighting on and not quitting. Learned his lesson, came back stronger.

Put on a shelf. As poorly as he has been managed, he is still in a different league to McDermott. Mark my words, the boy is going down!!

Yeah I have boxed as it happens mate, and Lawrence Murphey is not very good. Elcock avenged his defeat, but he should have never lost to a crao fighter like Murphey to begin with.

I hear Darren McDermott was in top form again last night beating Darren Rhodes in 5 and winning an eliminator on the process.

The real tests are out still there, but there's no denying Macca is in bang on course for a British title shot.

Lockett's with the Calzaghe team now, which is a fantastic move as far as I'm concerned!!

Gary and his fiancee had their first child a few months back, so training camp in Manchester away from his family was no longer suitable.

He's got somebody with real clout in his corner now, so we'll hopefully see Gary given some decent (and long deserved) oppertunities.

He's listed on here as having a rematch with Rhodes? Thats rubbish, from what I've heard he's fighting former Rhodes opponent, Lee Blundell.

Whatever can be said about Gary, he's hard working, durable, and strong. He's lost only once, and he avenged that defeat. I reckon he deserves more.

Go on Lock boy!
