Boxing's Tough Guys

Joe Grim- At first glance at his record you would say that Grim had one of the sorriest records in ring history having over 90 losses, but this is misleading in ways as Grim faced virtually every top name in the business. Such men were Jack Blackburn, Jack Johnson, Joe Gans, Battling Nelson---and he was never knocked out. This was what made Grim so legendary in his time, was that nobody, even the best of the best, couldn't knock him out. They could drop him 18 times, like Johnson did, but couldn't stop him.
Chuck Wepner- It's surprising that this man ever got ranked in the top 10 as he was one of the most sloppiest, awkward and defenseless fighters I have ever seen. Its surprising this man even had 81 wins and no losses as an amateur. But he wasn't knocked down until facing Muhammad Ali in 1975, and this was from a man who faced guys like George Foreman and Sonny Liston. After going nearly the full 15 rounds with Ali, Muhammad was quoted as saying 'There is no man in the world who can go 15 rounds like that,' which more than likely meant taking such a one sided beating and still be in his face.
Randall 'Tex' Cobb- He was only knocked out once, and there is a great suspicion that the fight was thrown. This man faced Mike Dokes, Ken Norton, Leon Spinks, Earnie Shavers, and went the full 15 rounds with Larry Holmes despite the scores being 150-100 and blood pouring from his face. This was a walking human anvil if there ever was one. It leads one to suspect that the wins Cobb had must of been, in part, for his opponents being so tired from pounding at a man who was defenseless.
George Chuvalo- He fought the best of the best: Ali (2), Frazier, Foreman, Williams, Ellis, Quarry, Mathis, Patterson, Bonavena, Terrell, Jones, Cleroux, Durelle, Rademacher, Baker, Besmanoff, DeJohn, and Bygraves. Never once was he knocked off his feet and this was in the greatest era of HW's. He was a contender for over a decade.
