Sky's Negative Commentary

Was it just me, or did anyone here feel that Darkie & Jim Watt were being quite unfair on RH. They seem to highlight the bad things that Hatton was doing most of the time. Hatton was in Vegas, won a major world title against a tough opponent and despite it not being vintage hatton, still did the job impressively. He's secured a big-money fight with Castillo as well, so I thought at least a bit of praise for his achievement wouldn't go amiss.

I don't know, it was a weird, flat, temperamental effort & he kept getting caught with right hooks all the time. First 4 rds he was excellent, but he could barely hold it together.
I do think that Collazo and Urango were all wrong for Hatton stylistically/physically, however. But he had no energy after those body shots in rd 7.

I think they were bang on the money, I think they were only offering constructive criticism and I think their negative tone was suppose to be a for warning when Hatton fights a worthy challenger.

I thought Darkie & Jim Watt were spot on to be honest.

It was just me then hehe. They were absolutely right in what they were saying, I agree def, but it was just the tone of it that's all. Hatton was getting caught a lot, that's for certain.
Time will tell, I guess.

i agreed with what jim and darkie were saying, the problem is that hatton, for the last 3 fights, has not performed to the standard that we know he can, therefore he has disappointed...
but we keep getting excuses...
maussa... too awkward
collazo...wrong weight and southpaw
urango ...... sore elbow, cold, opponent too strong..
whatever will it be next.

Hatton was great vs Maussa, if you forget the first 3 rds he was superb afterward.

I thought it was negative also, I do like Jim Watts view most of the time, but when he hooks onto a bad point, he goes on and I though he was taking away from the fight. I want to re-watch the American HBO broadcast of the fight to hear what they said through it.
We all know there was many points that may have not been good, but I thought the banging on was a bit over board.

he did some terrific work with the left jab when he found his range, or didn't you notice?

Sadly, due to Sky TV cocking up and not turning up, I didn't get to see this fight at all. Sounds like Hatton did a decent job against a tough opponent, but I think we are seeing a pattern here.
When Hatton fought Tackie, who was a fringe world class fighter, he looked classy and in control for almost the entire bout. Since then, he has looked, or been made to look ordinary and vulnerable against everyone he has fought. Maybe he hasn't been 'up' for these fights, or maybe he's already in slight decline physically. Despite being young, Hatton has actually had a lot of fights, which means a lot of making weight, and perhaps there's the beginnings of a deterioration.

of course i noticed, but lets be honest, maussa is crap, hatton should have been boxing his head off, maussa won the title with a lucky wild swing, he has no technique and no schooling at all.
ricky hatton is/was a fantastic boxer, but lately, he has been letting people tickle his chin who should not have even been lacing his boots...
and this is due to the start of the decline of ricky hatton, not an improvement in some of the lesser fighters he has entertained.

Sadly, won't have sky until 31st of January now at the earliest, as they don't have any engineers and since found out that I have to sort out a BT line first to get sky, and christ knows when that will happen.

I don't count Maussa as a bad performance. Anyone would have early problems unless they're a smooth counter puncher like Cotto. But Ricky was dominant in the middle rounds onward and finished with a peach of a shot.
The pattern I see is that Hatton is bad against southpaws. Hatton kept getting nailed with Urango's right hook on Saturday - he would often circle left, straight into it. Collazo obviously made him look bad & so did Magee.

Funnily enough I did think they were quite negative too...
"Hatton is stiffened again with a BIG cross", "Hatton is running on empty", "Hatton is like a car on fumes" it just seemed to me they couldn't emphasise it enough whenever something didn't go Hatton's way.
I'm not for one minute suggesting that Watt & Darke are in anyway anti-Hatton, in fact I think they are trying too hard to be objective and end up being overly critical..
"Hatton is hurt AGAIN by Urango, it's going very badly for him, he has of course won nearly every round Jim!"

the HBO crew kissed Hatton's azz
and even said it's okay if he holds every once in a while.
just like they did with wlad vs peter
' he's not holding that much ...Lampley says ' my azz he's not
of course Hatton was holding every 5 seconds.
Hatton was impressive for 6 rounds....then was pathetic for the final 6 rounds.

He saved a big fight, with one eye on Castillo, albeit giving alarm signals throughout. Ugly but ultimately effective and sometimes the result is most important.

you are right, Hatton made the final bell easy. I would just have liked the judges to do the right thing by screwing Hatton for it. lol
but the 3 judges....obvious are in love with Ricky as is the HBO crew.

I think the Hatton fight will be shown again tonight on SkySports 1, after the Michael Jones fight. Fingers crossed they show the whole fights.

Sky Sports have reported he had a heavy chest infection. I'm not makiing excuses, but he did look ropey before the fight and somewhat ill during/after. The body shots can't have helped that.
What Ricky needs to do is train in America, for his entire preparation. So easy to catch something when you go from one place to another totally different, especially when you've been in intensive training and your body is recovering during every break.

I thought they were often harsh. They highlight the fact that Ricky just taken one yet not mention he just landed a couple of combos previously. They were the same with Gatti v. Baldomir. Talking about how Baldomir looked knackered and Gatti landing quality punches (it was the other way round)... 5 seconds later Baldomir drops Gatti.
I downloaded the RH recent fight and also the Baldo Gatti fight and the commentary is the exact opposite and more bang on in my opinion.
