Almost forgot about this one, glad sky are picking up the coverage. I cant see past the Italian retaining his title, surely Jones will need to be the first to KO him if he's to bring the title back to blighty.

I do give Jones a chance, but he does start as a deserving underdog - Piccrillo is a very decent credible European champion.

An interesting enough fight though, got an old-fashioned feel to it for some reason.

A midweek European title challenge and all that reminds me of the old days....

It's a voluntary defense. Obviously Moore is ahead of Jones in the rankings, but they can defend against anyone in the EBU's top 15

Thanks mate I'd somehow got it into my head this was for a vacant title.

Moore is also injured at the moment, although jones says Tricket had been planning this for months with the italians.

A bloody good match for Jones, its come form nowhere really.

A Heavyweight called Kostantin Airich has his debut on the undercard, does anyone know anything about him?

Skysports 1 - 8pm-11pm.

It appears on the listings as a replay of Hatton Urango from 8 - 11, and im sure origionally Jones was due to be on at 10:00 - dont take my word for it though.

Jones' is going to have to go at this one full force and not give the Italian a minutes peace. Piccirillo has got so much experience and I reckon this will count. Piccirrillo in the scond half.

Picirillo If he wins will do on points though, not a stoppage.

Plus he's on the slide being easily beat by Mayorga.

Jones has got to come out and throw some big early shots, not let Piccirillo into his rhythm.
At 36 Piccirillo is nearing the end of a very good career, he has nice skills, he's not your typical throw a shot and grab Italian.

If Jones can unsettle Piccirillo he may be able to win it, but in Italy it will be hard for him.

I think Jones has a chance of a KO actually. I think 10/1 with Extrabet is a fair price.

Jones won that 11th round, bloody good effort even though he looks to be behind.

Just when I was thinking how nice it was to see the away crowd kept fairly quiet during the final rounds, and that happens. Shit. But like McCrory says - thats boxing. Cruel sport.

What happened?

Jones fell apart half way through the 12th, got caught by a big attack in the corner. He'd done really well up until then, and seemed to be putting a big effort in over the last 2 rounds.

Damn! I had bet on a points win for the Italian, man I've been awful so far this year need to retire from the gambeling game methinks...

I wouldn't have fancied Gary Woolcombe beating Jones on that form anyway, lucky for him the fight didn't happen IMO.

Brave effort by Jones, he can walk away with his head high, gave everything he had, tried to get some bigger shots off in the 11th and 12th, but just got caught by a big right hand.

This fight shows that Piccirillo would be hard to beat by any boxer in europe. He showed his experience tonight, he never let Jones feel comfortable in there, even when Jones had a good couple of rounds, Piccirillo just up'd the pace and came forward.
Was an excellent show by the Italian.
Hopefully we can see Jamie Moore in the ring with Piccirillo, certainly an even match-up. I would prefer Moore to get the fight on home soil though.
