Hmm, they really do seem to be assiduously avoiding anyone with even a hint of punch power? Is Khan chinny? I mean I know it's early days, but christ.

My thoughts entirely, they are really dredging the powder puff punchers barrel for Khan arent they, ...hardly a sign of confidence in his durability me thinks!...

Realistically any lightweight that has such a bad chin that they have to be matched against super featherweights with only 3 stoppages from 17 fights really should hang up their gloves as they are never going to make it to domestic class never mind world. It can't surely be a chin problem. If this is the length they have to go to, to protect Amir from being chinned, then whats the point in the lad boxing unless he's going to be fighting this kind of fight all his life? I think the correct answer is Amir won't turn out to have the best chin in the world but nor is it poor enough to warrant facing these small powderpuff punchers. Warren's looking out for himself on this one in 18 months when Calzaghe's gone Khan will be all he has left. You can bet Warren would rather lose his left nut than put Amir in a fight were he has anything less than a 99% chance of winning at this stage

Well I have no reservations in stating Khan's chin is not upto much - He is an accident waiting to happen - hence the very selective matchmaking (cant blame SN tbh)

Expect the non punchers to keep being brought in for a good while yet.

I'm not convinced his chin is the problem, he's just so open all the time. Putting him in with a puncher is risky because it's not a case of 'if' he gets caught flush with a big shot, it's a case of 'when'.

Well, I definetly won't be watching that fight...Can't believe people will still pay to see Khan against non punching super feathers....Frank must be laughing his head off.

Knowing Warrens skill at letting his fighters climb up the ratings while fighting lighter, older and weaker opposition, I've no doubt that Frankie can keep this up all the way to Khan fighting TBC for the vacant WBU lightweight 'title' in the near future... really you have to admire the mans cheek, ...if the punters are swallowing it then poor fool them really... its not as if anyone is really taking world titles seriously in this country anymore is it??!....

The writing was on the wall really as soon as kHAN was pulled out of the ABA's after being floored and getting a nose bleed, says it all really... and he hasnt really had a proper fight since... which is probably one of the reasons why he's shown little improvement and in fact seems to have got worse imo...

Warren doesn't have any responsibility to the general public - he's a businessman and will do whatever is best for him and his employees/fighters.

But surely journalists have a duty to inform the public that certain events which are painted as significant, great, momentous, etc are (where it applies) a load of shite?

Yes, you are quite right on both counts. The public only factor into the equation for the promoter in terms of 'how many people can I get to shell out on this bill?' If they feel they can get away with spending less and getting more they will, and that is across the board. Warren, due to his position historically as being the top dog, has had most of the talent, and a number of cash cows who he has treated with Kidd gloves. That is to be expected. However, now he doesn't have quite so many aces up his sleeve as Harrison and Hatton are gone, Calzaghe is very near the end of his career, and Khan remains, as yet, an unproven commodity. This means that Khan is likely to be given the softly softly treatment for some time to come, and perhaps steered towards a soft vacant belt against mediocre opposition. Maybe not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

It's fair game for writers to point out that a contest is nothing more than a treading water fight, and as long as a fight isn't billed as being more than this, then there's no problem, but when they try and dress mutton up as duck with hoi-sin sauce, then there is going to be criticism.

To be fair, it's not like they are claiming Khan is in with a load of world beaters, but how much longer will the public stands for watching him learn his trade and to all intents and purposes topping the bill doing so?

If he gets him out earlier then Mitchell he will be mouthing off saying how powerful he is.

The box office talent over at sports network is so thin on the ground Warren wont be taking ANY risks with Khan.

It's looking like Ricky Hatton probably wasted his prime on those later WBU mismatches, due to the over cautious attitude @ SN.

I agree to some extent, Ricky has never looked as relentless in the ring as he did before beating Tszyu, however maybe that's not a coincidence perhaps he just lost the fire after the big win.

The point I felt it all started looking iffy was after the Kelson Pinto fight fell through, that would have been an excellent fight to build on the Tackie win and launch Ricky into the bigtime. Instead they had to call in Pederson. By that point Warren was dangeling Spadafore and Harris but never it materialised, in against Vilches Ricky looked like he had no motivation what so ever. I got the feeling the Zoo fight was made because wWrren knew Ricky would leave if he didn't deliver.

Obviously I know nothing about match making and would never claim to, but I can't help but think he should have gone to the US earlier maybe after the Tackie win rather than filling out the MEN against guys like Virchis. Maybe had a fight against someone half decent or even forced his WBO mandatory status against Cotto then tried for either Gatti or Zoo. This is all speaking from a fight fan's perspective obviously I've no idea if this would have left him better off financially than staying in the UK.

So, is Khan a lightweight or light welter?



The trick should be to let him learn his trade, while not forgetting to put him in fights ppl want to watch.

They should do it the proper way, not the WBO shortcut.

Fight - Thaxton for the British lightweight title. Then fight Romanov for the European. Okay, I admit, I'd love to see Yuri make chopped liver out of him.

Earl would be acceptable but for al the wrong reasons. Meager would be ok, also.

Is it the same ppl who keep tuning in to see Khan? Because what he's doing is NOTHING to win over new fans. While he beats on smaller men in mismatches that get spunked up on by the broadsheets and foamed over by commentators, what does that do for viewers??

Ian, exactly right. Why on earth did Bruno and Harrisons opponents get routinely trashed but everybody is turning a blind eye to Amir Khans laughable opposiiton.

Yet another feather/super-feather with NO power!! Has anyone ever seen a prospect routinely matched with guys with such low number of kayos?

And yet he's still there being quoted on the BBC website "i'll be world champ by the end of the year". Someone needs to tell the general public Joel Casamayor et al are a step up or twenty from these bums.

Also, BBC state he vacated his IBF belt to concentrate on Lightweight division. The IBF never sanctioned any fight and the owner of the belt Khan had is unknown (!)
