Boxer arrested on drugs charges

Harrison was arrested in Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street
Former WBO featherweight boxing champion Scott Harrison has been arrested on drugs charges.
Harrison, 29, was detained in Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street on Tuesday night along with a 35-year-old man.

He is being held in police custody and is due to appear at the city's sheriff court on Thursday.

The Cambuslang boxer is also due to appear in a Spanish court on Friday accused of assault and stealing a car in a separate incident.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for Strathclyde Police said: "We can confirm two men aged 29 and 35 were arrested and detained in connection with alleged drugs offences."

Harrison is banned from boxing after failing to appear before a British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) tribunal last week.

It will be the Coke no doubt.

No doubt. I think we can safely say that being banned from boxing is the least of Harrison's worries right now. How many different charges are pending against him now? Not to mention the fact that the Taxman wants a word as well.

He should thank his lucky stars he isn't in the states. Mike Tyson is looking at up to 15 years in jail at the moment for possession of Cocaine, due to this being his third strike, he may well get it too.

Harrison will maybe serve a brief custodial sentence, but he's not going to do more than 18 months. Cocaine possession isn't a major one in this country, unless you have a shed load, in the states, even enough for personal supply can land you in some serious shit.

Does anyone know whether each of these offences are going to be tried individually, or are the magistrates allowed to factor in other offences?

He might end up doing serious bird, he's already up on 2 charges of assault one against a copper. Wasn't there another possession charge? The spanish thing, then this. He needs locking up for his own benefit as much as the publics.

Wonder what odds you Ladbrokes would give on Harrison to not fight again?

He's got so many charges hanging over his head. Maybe he needs help, I don't know? Latest episode has really done his chances of being given permission by BBBC to fight again, hasn't it!

Not that I think he would have been given permission to box anyway.

Just waiting for his Peter Harrison to say "Scott will fight again".

People have tried to help him but if doesn't want to be helped what can they do?

Bang him up.

Nunn is a different kettle of fish though - he was caught with bricks of the 5hit - he was selling weight.

If Scott is a caught with a gram or two of personal I doubt he will do too much time..

Rolled up with all the other offences though, he could, and should, be in trouble.

It wasnt like he was justbuying a gram for the wkend though was it guys??:

On August 6th, 2002, it was an undercover FBI drug sting that would capture Nunn as he (Nunn) made a successful attempt of purchasing one kilogram of Cocaine from an undercover FBI agent. The street value of the drug was reported to be an estimated $24,000.

Scott is beyond help i'm afraid...i can't understand with so many charges cropping up all the time against him why is he constantly being bailed?

The constant bails flabberghast me as well, and the ironic thing is that had Scott been jailed for a year or so for some of his earliest offences he would never have been out to get into the bother that he has done in the last year or so and he may even have been able to get some help inside... the way things are going he's either going to end up dead or severely hurting someone else...

Would be very interested to know how this arrest came about. I know that area can be dodgy at night (I used to work up nearer the Garnethill end) but the genesis of this arrest could open up a pandora's box for Scottish boxing. We'll find out tomorrow...

Isn't that the third championship boxer from North of the border in recent years who have been arrested? I'm sure I read (alledgely for good measure) that Gary Jacobs and Paul Weir were also arrested on drug related offenses.

Jaysus you're a naive ignorant pudendum... you would be very surprised if you knew the names of a bunch or pro boxers who are recreational drug users.

Drugs are no different to drink/

Didn't Pat Clinton get done for something as well or am I mistaken?

What a shame. Nunn was one of the best built middleweights I have ever seen. He looks pure class in the photo. 6'2" wasnt he.

He could box, punch, fast hands good feet decent chin, good defence. He coulda been great, but the drugs and street life ruined him.

I found his skittish, flighty south paw style tedious to be honest and I rejoiced the day the then unknown Toney lowered the boom on Nunn.

I thought he threw too many shots from the waist and he lacked the charisma or excitement of the middles who preceeded him in the 80s.

Each to their own I suppose..

I use drugs, and I've never been a thief or gone around assaulting people, well ok, I've twatted a few people, but drugs weren't anything to do with it, in fact the only drug that's ever caused me to become in any way aggressive is alcohol.

I certainly don't think many people would consider me "the scum of the earth."

You don't know what they say behind your back James..........

Dependance to certain drugs will take control of a person. Don't they say the majority of crime is to drugs related, whether to feed a habbit or to sell the stuff. Not to mention it may change the person from who they once were

If you have control of your habit then good for you.

Well, I'm not a junkie or anything. Like a huge swathe of the population in this country, I like a bit of nose now and again, have the odd spliff with a bottle of wine, and occasionally (though rarely now) have a E.

Cocaine will bring out the worst in people. If you are an aggressive person already, it will bring out that aggression in you. I personally am not an aggressive person, unless provoked to extremes, and so it's not a problem.

Someone like Harrison however, obviously has an addictive personality trait, and is probably unable to control his habits. Interestingly Cocaine is not at all physically addictive, but is incredibly powerful nontheless, as it acts on an extremely powerful and primitive level with the brain chemistry, making it fantastically psychologically addictive, it acts on dopamine, which is the chemical responsible for us feeling 'pleasure' obviously a very very powerful and very ancient evolutionary chemical pathway.

This is why Cocaine is so dangerous for people with compulsive or addictive personality disorders, it's feeding into a very basic mechanism, and it's a cycle which can be very hard to get out of.

Having said all that, if you can handle it, it's a laugh now and then.

Tis bad news though. Nothing I like more in boxing than a good old comeback, fighters out of the game for a couple of years banish their demons and come back to reclaim past glories.

But as each midemeanour comes along it looks all the more unlikely that this will be the case with Harrison.

I'm with Jim on drug use in general, most people can handle it ok, it's like alcohol and even gambling though, some people clearly can't and have addictive personalities...

Thank you, the voice of reason. I would suggest Rhino222 get out a bit more.

Mote than 1 million es are consumend every weekend in the UK, and goodness knows how much charlie.

One third of ALL people in the UK (incl OAPS etc ) have taken drugs.

As to violence - drink is by far the most dangerous, not to mention taking risks...

I mean how many E heads have ever been into a fight when on a pill?

Scott Harrison seems to be going the same way as Benny Lynch, very sad for all concerned.
