Your Favorite Displays Of Ring Dominance

And of course I mean bouts where both guys were considered top class. Some of mine.

Meldrick Taylor v Buddy McGirt. This was an amazing display by Taylor against a World class opponent. Meldrick thoroughly outboxed McGirt and then took him out in the final round.

Richie Sandoval v Jeff Chandler. I loved this bout, because I didn't like Chandler, but what Sandoval did that afternoon was beyond just about anyone's expectations. When it looked like Chandler, who hadn't won a round, might actually survive to the final bell, Sandoval pounded him till he was helpless and had to be rescued. Strangely Sandoval never again rose to such heights.

John John Molina v Tony Lopez II. This was a beautiful fight, because unlike there first and third bouts, Molina didn't stand in front of Lopez and try and trade with him. Instead Molina utilized his superior boxing skill and handspeed to dissect the fan favorite in his home arena. Unfortunately, when the referee rescued the badly cut and practically defenseless Lopez, the ring was showered with beer cups and other objects.

Dwight Muhammad Qawi v Matthew Saad Muhammad I. I think everyone was expecting the usual MSM rally, but Qawi rather than letting up kept increasing his output.

Hector Camacho v Rafael Limon. No matter how popular you are because of your entertaining "go to war" style, this is what happens when a guy with no defense meets a guy with blinding handspeed.

Don't like these kind of fights. Penell Whittaker was so good he shut out loads of opponents. He's a great, great fighter but his fights were so uncompetitive I always found myself rooting for the other guy. Now I look back and love his style but at the time...

I can usually tell when a fighter is going to be great because I want the other guy (whoever he is).

I was a bit surprised the way Hagler dominated Alan Minter. I expected it to go like Hagler-Hamsho I.

I wasn't surprised at how Hagler handled Minter myself =/ Minter was a bleeder and a 'white hope' of the MW division. That's just my opinion though, looking at his over all career.

Few of my favorite displays of dominance:

-Max Baer vs Primo Carnera, I honestly can't think of a single round or moment in that fight where Carnera looked like he was on equal ground or held his own against Baer. 11 knockdowns in 11 rounds. Absoloutely remarkable.

-Ingemar Johansson vs Floyd Patterson (1), 7 knockdowns Patterson suffered at the hands of the big Swede. If it wasn't for John Wayne being in the audience making Patterson feel like he had to get up for the 'Duke' its quite possible Patterson would have been stopped earlier.

-Buster Douglas vs Mike Tyson, the greatest upset of modern times, if not in all of boxing history. The 42-1 underdog Douglas handled Tyson like a school boy (except for the 8th round) and ended Tyson's 36-0 rampage across the HW division. Absoloutely amazing.

-Sugar Ray Leonard vs Robert Duran (2), Duran was never really in the fight. Make arguments that he had trouble making weight, make excuses that Duran was sick, etc. Doesn't matter. Leonard made Duran look foolish and made him quit. Unbelievable.

Honorable Mentions:

-James Toney vs Evander Holyfield, sure Evander was passed his prime, sure he hadn't been a champion of any kind since the 1990's. Doesn't matter. He was still Evander Holyfield and Toney was making his debut at HW and many felt after his war with Jirov he would have a good chance at losing to even Holyfield who still had his moments. Toney beat Holyfield to the punch, knocked him down twice, won by TKO. Great dominance.

-Randall Tex Cobb vs Larry Holmes, call it a mismatch, call it a grudge fight, but nobody can deny how wide a decision it was. Holmes was winning on margins of 150-100! Cobb, tough guy that he was, stayed the full 15 rounds with Holmes, but never had a single moment of prowess. After the fight Cobb was quoted as saying 'Had it been a fight in a back alley in Texas, I'd have whipped Larry Holmes ass.'

-Lennox Lewis vs Mike Tyson, it was a fight that should have happened 10 years before. It was the biggest fight in history. It was a massacre. It was a disaster. Tyson won the 1st round, but Lewis won the next seven all but knocking Tyson's head off with his long battering ram of a jab and booming right hand. When it was over, Tyson was exposed for what he was, a shell of a man who pretended to have been a fighter since 1990.

Donald Curry- Collin Jones - You can tell Jones couldn't even see the punches coming his way.

Dawson- Adamek- Dawson outclassed a fighter who many believe was a Top 3 LHW and didn't think Dawson had enough experience..

Trinidad-Dlh In this super fight the fight was a true pick-em After 4 or 5 rounds you knew it was to be a long day for Trinidad

Hamed-barrera

Lennox Lewis/Michael Grant. Lennox gave him two seconds of respect then just steamrolled him.

Floyd Mayweather/Genaro Hernandez some people thought at the time it was two early for Floyd. Floyd dominated the fight, as Hernandez's corner called it after a couple of rounds.

How strange then that Carnera won the majority of rounds until the stoppage. The knockdowns were cocentrated in a couple of rounds, in most of the others Carnera (who fought with a broken ankle) outscored Baer with his jab. Baer was known for fighting in spurts only -- which cost him the title against Braddock.

Minter was a champion who would have been round a few more years if not for Marvin. Minter was a tall MW (back then) and a southpaw...a very tricky opponent. He also beat Vito for the title, something Hagler failed to do on his first outing...

I also think that the "white hope" term suggests he got preferential treatment. I'm not Minter's biggest fan but he was a very hard opponent for any man and won the undispurted lineal title.

If we are talking about two percieved evenly matched World class fighters where one fighter totally dominated the other, the following come to mind.

Azumah Nelson vs Jeff Fenech II.
Lennox Lewis vs David Tua.
Bernard Hopkins vs Antonio Tarver.
Winky Wright vs Felix Trinidad.
Oscar De La Hoya vs Ricardo Mayorgo.
Robero Duran vs Ken Buchanan.

Have read a few articles where writers of the time state Carnera was outboxing Max from the rounds 8,9,10 had begun to gain confidence and get back in to the fight.Must say though in the rounds Baer was putting Carnera down it was incrediblly one sided to watch.

This is a great one.
The old timers around here are still talking about this fight.
Davey was built up and then tossed in with The Keed.
Chuck was thrashed.

Excellent pick...One of my favorite performances of one guy totally dominating the other, even when Pipino was still considered invicible and in his prime.

The greatest performance and total dominance of all time for me was when they took Pernell Whitaker his moment of shining. He totally schooled the greatest fighter pound per pound of the time in Julio Cesar Chavez...This gotta be the greatest!!! :TU: :TU: :TU:

Other great ring performances of total domination:
Ali vs Big Cat Williams
Duran vs DeJesus III
Duran vs Buchanan

Hearns vs Duran...Even though Duran was past his prime, Hearns was the ONLY GUY to KO my favorite fighter with a stunning display of speed and power.

Foreman vs Frazier I
Louis vs Schmeling II
Sanchez vs Gomez
Mayweather Jr vs Corrales...I thought that Corrales was going to be the first one to beat the Pretty Boy, but what I saw was an azz kicking

Hopkins vs Tito: Hopkins won almost every round and then finishes him off in spectacular fashion. A bigger and talented fighter always, 90% of the time beats a great and smaller foe. The EVIDENCE CANNOT BE ANY CLEARER.

Just watched Mike Tyson/Marvis Frazier on youtube again. Frazier decided to brawl w/Tyson and Tyson steamrolled through him
