Anybody know anything about this guy?
I was doing some research the other day and came across his record. On paper it looks very good. He only lost 3 times in 126 fights, avenged all three, and was never stopped. He was twice light-welterweight champ, and held several regional titles at light and at welter. He was 2-1 against Carlos Ortiz, who most people regard as an all-time great.
Why is he not more highly regarded? Is it that his record is in some way misleading, or is it just because most of his fights were in continental Europe rather than US (or even UK) that nobody knows him?

Who is not highly regarding him? I've always wondered about a Loi/Loche fight.

Duilio Loi was a very much avoided Lightweight contender in the late 1950's. He was a teak tough, highly skilled southpaw who could box well when required but could slug it out with the best of them as well. He also has a very good defence.
He finally got a shot at the newly created Light-Welterweight held by the oustanding Carlos Oritz but lost a very close decision. But Loi got his revenge soon after.
Duilio Loi was an oustanding fighter who should have got a title shot a few years earlier. Maybe he doesn't get the credit he should as he fought mostly in Europe and maybe at the time the Light-Welter crown seemed a lesser title maybe?

There careers would have crossed at the end of Loi's and the Beginning of Loche....if my memory serves. Perhaps a very good fight in real time as a fading Loi would be facing a not ready for prime time Loche.
What do you think KoJoe?

He had a real good series with Eddie Perkins .
They went 1-1-1 I think.
I would have liked to have seen those fights.

These are guys that you may want to consider when you do your BoxRec Hall of Fame Ballot. I seriously considered them myself.
You guys are very familiar with them but most people aren't.
Both Loi and Locche are guys that you don't hear a lot about. Not being from the United States, and primarily fighting in the Jr Welterweight class may be why they are so often overlooked.
Ortiz is better known, but even he is a little underrated.

Thanks for the info everyone.
It was well checking some things out for my hall of fame ballot that I came across Loi - I certainly considered him for it, but wanted to know more. I might well include him next time.
