Guess The Fighter

He's got a better record against Hall of Famers than Jake LaMotta and Mickey Walker combined, AND he still isn't in the Hall of Fame. Obviously he's not a heavyweight or there'd be a post a day about him.

Holmann Williams, Lloyd Marshall, probably lots of guys.
How many wins did Marshall have? 6?

Holman Williams and Lloyd Marshall both have losing records against Hall of Famers, so it's not them.

Any hints you can give as to era, weight class, etc.?

If you're going by wins combined, that would be...8. So Marshall and Williams are both out of the question.

Damn! I was gonna say Bert Gilroy.

Bert is the greatest fighter never to have won a world title. Check out his record. Ignore the losses, we have an excuse for every one of them plus 1500 reports all saying the same thing which is this......... BERT GILROY WAS THE GREATEST FIGHTER NEVER TO WIN A WORLD TITLE.

What? You've never heard of Bert? Damn you, sir!

Mephis Pal Moore?

He was mentioned in a thing I read about the guys with the most fights ever, beat Jimmy Wilde too.

Yep, Memphis Pal Moore went 10-6-6 with 3 NC's against fighters who are in HOF, but he hasen't made it in himself.

To put that in some perspective, Jake LaMotta went 5-6-0, Mickey Walker 5-7-1, Johnny Dundee 3-10-6, Fritizie Zivic 6-13-1, Floyd Patterson 3-6-0, etc. I'm not suggesting that records against HOF'ers be the sole criteria for induction, but it should be of some significance, certainly above winning the HW title and losing it in your first or second defense. Newsboy Brown 6-2-2 and Willie Joyce 8-6-1 are a couple more guys who have really been ignored by the HOF.

Is Newsboy Brown really not in the HOF? Thats very odd I wonder why.

Newsboy Brown is definitely not in the IBHOF. I haven't been able to track down the vote totals on it's yearly elections, but I'd be very interested to see how he's placed in the past.
