I just watched part of "Shadowboxer" about Lucia Rijker. Michael Bentt is in it, he's a training camp coordinator in Stan Hoffman's New York camp. He said that he cried every night for a year when he had to retire. I didn't really follow him, why did he have to retire? Incindently, that's a good movie. Interviews with Freddie Roach, and James Toney trains in Hoffman's camp, so he's good for a few laughs.

He received a head injury in the fight with Herbie Hide and was advised by the doctors not to fight again. Career ended at the age of 24.

Thanks Robin. Bentt seems like a genuinely good guy that truly loves the sport of boxing.

I am glad he chose to listen to the doctors and not fight in some state that would have sanctioned him anyways.

I am sure if he wanted to fight he could have found some palce that would let him. Good for him to see boxing is a great sport, but not worth your mental health at such a young age.

I've ran into to Michael a few times here in L.A. He really is a good guy and is now starting a successful acting career. He played Sonny Liston in ALI and has a few more film appearances coming up.
