Was this fight broadcast by the BBC? Anyone seen it at the time, or ever seen it available? How come nobody has it available?

Was it really as deadly boring as legend has it?

not sure if it was even televised.... didnt see it but by all accounts Brown just wanted to survive and the two did nothing.......

but its hardly a mythical fight ...check out Shannon v sergui...or any byrd or mccline fights if u want to see fighters wading thru glue

If I recall correctly, it was shown later on Sportsnight which may even still have been " Sportsnight With Coleman" in the early 80's

I sat and watched it from start to end. I still begrudge both fighters the time I spent watching it

Semi-Interesting fact, Phil Brown, an top US amateur, outpointed Jimmy Young as a pro. That might have been the most boring fight ever?!

I'm with Slapsie - I seem to vaguely remember watching it but can remember literally nothing about the fight itself.

Mind could be playing tricks though.

Very brief 'highlights' only were shown. I suppose, like me, most people didn't keep it.

Bruno was such a celeb, how come they only showed very brief HLs? It must have been shown in longer format at some point, surely?

At that point (83?) he was not that huge a celeb

There was definitely a buzz but, I think the only real names on his record at the time were LeDoux and Cummings.

If I recall rightly, he did not even get huge coverage for the fight with Coetzee or Anders Eklund which were both shown the night after the fight.

Bear in mind as well that there were only three main channels at the time ( Channel Four had just started and was not covering any sport apart from NFL and Kabbhadi - remember that? ) so there was limited opportunity for a non world title fighter

Bruno was being hyped to the hills by The Sun even before his career kicked off.
There was a photo and article about him after he knocked out that Mexican bum in his pro debut.

And the Coetzee fight was pretty big, as it was a world eliminator and the S African was still a huge puncher, with his bionic right hand ( no bionic chin though )

I don't recall watching the Brown fight either, think we were spared the agony and the BBC wanted to hide any non punching performances by their beloved Bruuuuuno.

Nah. I definitely saw some of the Brown fight on TV. In a student union building. I remember it because my own little B&W was on the blink and there was no other reason I would have been in there.

I always remember Bruno being interviewed by Des Lyneham on Sports Personality of the Year

Warren said he reckoned his gardener could've done better, which must explain why his team of gardeners have featured in so many sports network main events I guess.

Luckily for Brown, Frank didn't throw a right hand in the entire 10 rounds.

The Gerry Coetzee fight was big enough at the time. Double page spreads in the tabs previewing the fight etc which boxing hasn't had in god knows how long.

The problem with some of Brunos biggest fights being broadcast delayed were down to tv machinations as opposed to any lack of popularity.

I heard that either later that night or the night before Chuck 'The Viking' Gardner got into a drunken bar brawl with the one and only Mark Kaylor.

No, like I told you, they only showed brief 'highlights'. The fact that you can't find it on anyone's list suggests that what I told you is correct.

The main event was a triple title showdown between Sibson and Kaylor wasn't it? That too was only shown in edited form - about 6 rounds of the 12.

Perhaps some other Brits were doing well in sport that week and they decided to show that instead. As someone already mentioned there was no satellite TV in those days and boxing didn't always make the cut, or if it did, it was cut, if you'll pardon the pun.

You're right, and strangely enough the BN from that week is sitting in a draw right beside me:
