Llanelli's Dean Phillips will fight Swansea's Damien Owen for the vacant Welsh Lightweight title, to be held on the Scott Gammer-Danny Williams show in Neath Sports Centre, Wales on Friday March 2nd, 2007.
Although given just 2 weeks notice for the fight, Dean is in top shape and has been training for his return to the ring for a long time. He is really looking forward to putting the setback of his last fight well behind him and is overjoyed at this opportunity.
Last time out, Dean lost to world class former WBU World Lightweight and European Champion Tontcho Tontchev, a fight in which Dean says he has learned a lot:
"I knew instictively the mistake that I made against Tontchev, and you don't make mistakes against world class opposition without paying the price. That's boxing. I have well and truly put that behind me now and I am looking forward to the Owen fight to prove this. As a bonus I get to do this in Wales."
"Most all of the 7 losses on my record have been on away soil, and most of those losses could have gone either way or was a case of me being hard done by. But that's the nature of the sport - you don't get any favours fighting in your opponent's backyard - that's common knowledge."
"This time I am coming home. I have been a professional boxer since 1994 and have gained a wealth of experience fighting championship level fighters and world class operators, as well as training with some of the world's best. There is still a lot left in the tank - I feel as sharp and strong as ever, extremely fit and I am as ambitious as ever. I am a very big lightweight and feel so strong at this weight now. This will undoubtedly go in my favour."

Phillips-Owen tops off a triple title show in which, apart from the main event, Loughor's Ceri Hall fights for the Celtic Light Welterweight title against Stuart Green.
