What do you guys think about Ringside, the boxing show on ESPN Classic on Saturday nights? I generally like it a lot, although last night sucked. Usually though it's pretty good, way to much talking though. Some episode like the one they did on Tyson have been outstanding.

I didn't particuarlt like the 'Little Big Men' episode either.

But I know if I see another Tyson or Ali special I am going to blow a gasket, way too much over exposure.

Never did get to see the Marciano Ringside special that was on last year and have yet to see it re-aired. I wonder if ESPN sells those shows on tapes?

I think the show is a bit more informative and 'fun' for the real boxing fan, not the casual fan, but I think sometimes they go into some things too long than the more interesting parts.

Btw do you ever notice that they never do an Ali special about his final years as a boxer? They always seem to end it at the Thrilla in Manila with Joe Frazier. I know they wouldnt want to 'tarnish' his good name, but then again I don't consider the third Norton fight or the Shavers fights to be too bad.

I think it is just another way for ESPN to package and promote the exact same fights that they have shown over and over and over and over again! This is just another format for the same ole' stuff! It's as bad as showing Emmanuel Augutus fights from 2005, or others just like him, or of that caliber and calling them "Classic Fights." It would be easy to understand if that was all they had to offer, but it isn't. In fact, ESPN has only shown probably a total of around 5% of the total fights that they actually have.

It is a total shame. At least Versus channel are giving better quality fights. The other night, they showed the 2 fights of Hearns vs Barkley.

I've recently re-immersed myself into the late 70s career of Ali. A few jokes (Coopman, all the wrestling matches) but some great fights vs Shavers, Spinks I and Norton 111 (although not as good as their rematch) Even the Jimmy Young fight has its moments. Ali in the late 70s still had special reflexes and speed but was getting tired much quicker than he had when he was younger and being forced to exhange more with his younger, stronger adversaries.

The fact that he remained a top HW (despite the Norton robbery) after the third Frazier fight is nothing short of amazing. He was a guy who relied so much on youthful speed and reflexes but still hung tough and managed to tough out some wins.

I enjoyed the first showing of Holyfield, but what I enjoyed most is the interviews with the fighters. Even the little big men episode I looked forward to listen to Pernell Whitaker than fast forward through the rest. I also enjoyed listening to Ray Mancini who just sounds thrilled to be there and talk about fighters.
