Wayne McCullough.

Wayne himself has said:

According to an online sports report Steve Molitor, the IBF Super Bantamweight Champion might fight me.

The journalist called me "over-the-hill" so I can add that to my resume along with "underdog" . Sticks and stones and all that!

He is training about 5 fighters in his gym now but obviously still has the hunger himself. Although alot of us wanted him to retire after the second Larios fight and even the Harrison fight , if he has to carry on he should have been alot more active than he has been. Jumping straight in with a talent like Molitor is very risky.

Despite stopping Hunter, Molitor isnt particularly heavy handed so I can see an extended, possibly damaging, beating for the Las Vegas based catcher.

I wish McCullough would turn it in and concentrate on training fighters/runing his gym. He has nothing left to prove.

I find it surprizing he's still being given title shots, I mean I admire Wayne McCullough but if this fight comes off what exactly has he done to earn it?

I think its more a case of what danger does he bring to the champ, save his reputation for fitness and one of the best beards in history.

He is a well known, low risk option so there are plenty who will feed off his hard won reputation. If he was a banger, he might find the title fight opportunities were harder to come by..

Maybe not. The longer Wayne continues the more chance there is that eventually the amazing chin that he has won't be there for him anymore. I'd hate to see him finish his career being knocked out by someone he'd have a had a better than fair chance of beating whilst in his prime.

Like you, I would prefer McCullough to concentrate on being on the other side of the ropes now. And also I'd like to think that after Molitor's excellent display against Hunter, he'd be looking at someone other than an inactive, and sad to say it, faded Wayne McCullough.

Well, if Wayne is the same fight which even got stopped by Larios then he showed he could hang with just about anyone in the devision.

Molitor was impressive, but I think the last version of Wayne was better than Hunter.

Wayne has been to the well too many times - You have to wonder how many more times he can do it before it all falls apart for him.

The signs are there already.

In a way it would be better if Wayne's chin WOULD desert him. Part of the problem is that he is so hard to stop that he takes a neural beating in every single fight he has at top level.

He is a popular choice of opponent, because he isn't the sort to spoil, hold and run, and without much head movement, opponents are made to look like destroyers as they tee-off on his forward moving chin which is always open for business.

If Wayne wants to continue, further title shots are not a good move, he isn't going to get any better, and he hasn't the punch power to turn around a fight at the weight he now fights at.

Wayne is a hard hard man, but many hard men before him have ended up walking in gimpy legs, slurring their words, or in a wheelchair being patted on the back at ex-boxers association dinners. It's wayne's life of course, but there's a hell of a lot of it left when he retires.

Well said. McCullough should retire and stick to training.

I dont think he'd last six rounds with Moliter.

I think we are all in agreement. I think Molitor will put a repetitive beating on McCullough similar to the Scott Harrison fight but stop him late. Not something we want to see.

Whats people's opinion on a Larios vs Molitor match up. I'm not convinced outclassing Hunter is proof that he is a level up from Larios.

Well said, sir. Although I've always been a bit chary of rating Larios -- that herky-jerky thing he seems afflicted with gets pretty tiresome to watch -- and I couldn't fricking believe he went the twelve with Pacquiao; maybe it was not having to plane off that extra half a stone which made him so much better, and he just can't make 122 lbs and be effective any more.

Anyway, all this is a prelude to the Super Bantam fight I want to watch (er, that is, the other Super Bantam fight apart from Israel Vazquez against Rafa Marquez, which cannot fail to be VFM) -- Daniel Poncé De Leon versus Stevie Molitor. Classic puncher versus boxer matchup.

Okay, maybe a classic caveman versus boxer matchup, but still you get my drift...
