I believe that my PC has been infected with this Trojan Syware Threat. I've got Norton Antivirus & System Works. I downloaded that Spybot Search & Destroy - but I'm still getting popups where in the past I had none. Also, I keep getting these fake popups saying "download this program now" which I know to be absolute shit to con me out of money.

It;s getting so I don't know what's what - Norton's saying buy this and buy that. What's real & what isn't?

I've tried System Restore, to no avail. It's like this bastard has insinuated itself onto my PC, and I'm not sure what damage it's capable of doing.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I think you may have something which falls between software and spyware called addware.
It is most likely not "malicous", but instead is very aggressively promoting downloadable products. They get installed by "your permission" so other tools are limited to their ability to remove them.
Either SpyBot will eventually add your issue into their database, in which case SpyBot will eventiually remove the product. once you download an update..else try search for info about it on the net. (search for the exact messages you are seeing). If you can find the name of the porduct, someone may have information on how to remove it.

Try 'Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal'. It's the only one I use and have not had any problems with outbreaks.

Failing that couldn't he system restore to before the problem emerged? My Dads an IT Manager and has literally spent days ridding my PC of certain malwares - spybot etc just weren't sufficient. If you can restore your system to pre-malware attack you should be sorted ( although some smarter malwares take this facility away though)

Tried it but the PC just says there's no changes. Which is certainly not true.

Like already said use Lavasoft Adaware PE, it's free and pretty good the free version of AVG 7.5 (girosoft) is also free and worth using.

Download these, reboot your PC in safe mode and run Spybot, Lavasoft, AVG 7.5 and then Norton.

Hopefully that wiil clean things up for you.

AVG 7.5, think I will get that too.

I use both Adaware and Spybot as each picks up some malware, addaware yadda yadda ware that the other doesn't. If it is a trojan then your anti virus should catch it.

Download Hijack this and either look at some sites which can tell you what parts of your log to delete or go to the forum (make sure you read the rules and put it your log in the right forum etc - they won't respond if you don't) and they usually get it sorted.

Thanks for the help. I just used AVG 7.5 and it found the bleeder.
I'm no longer infested!

My system runs fine but I just ran AVG 7.5 and it found 13 dodgy ones. Into the vault they go.

These programs seem pretty good because they update frequently.

Still, i've got a dodgy toolbar ("protection bar" - AS IF!) that won't go away.

I use 'CWShredder' for unwanted toolbars. Works well.

do you use fire fox? i find it keeps pop ups away and seems faster.

Bit defender is good

I never get any virii, spyware, addware, trojans or whatever but then again I am using Ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.com/

Windows defender is good for spyware/adware and its free from microsoft - It warns you of anything that might be harmful and does scans to check for nasties - Spyware/adware will slow your computer to a chronically slow speed so you must have some protection such as Windows defender which MS upgrade on a regular basis - It also lets you know the level of the threat when it finds something which is good.
