Why is it that our best young prospect gets no media exposure, He just won the WBO interim title in a great fight and it wasn't even mentioned once on any program.
We get to see Fenech fight nights with Tomato cans fighting each other and he is fighting in England against a good opponent and gets no coverage its a joke

bit sad really....he is argubally in our top 3 fighters in the country yet only big fans know him, while everyone knows the likes of Mundine, Green and briggs.

if he comes back to fight in say, Brisbane with a world title he will get loads of media coverage.

I was impressed with Katsidis in the Earl fight. 1st time I've seen him fight.

Has he been in any other corkers?

The lightweight division is really going stale. Casamayor 1 fight away from retirement and his cash in opponents (Juan Diaz-Freitas) are fighting each other!

Jesus Chavez injury prone, while I'll bet Julio Diaz has serious mental scars after Castillo battered him.

IMO Katsidis can be a real factor.

The best fight at lightweight is Katsidis-Yuri Romanov. That would just be sensational.

Earl was his hardest opponent to date, Most of his other opponents are on the back foot fairly quick and just try to survive. Earl actually took the fight to him and exchanged which probably wasn't the best thing for him to do. Katsides is young and will only get better i think the Earl fight will really open his eyes to the fact he can be hurt if he's carless and he needs to pace himself a bit better.

Katsidis fight with Ganoy was a war. Very similar fight to the Graham Earl fight. Both guys traded bombs until Katsidis prevailed in the 5th.

Assuming all his visa troubles are truly sorted out I think his next fight should be in the USA. If he could get on a good undercard it will build his career in much the same way as Darchinyan (they have similar power, desire and therefore appeal). I would disagree and would try and build his profile at home before trying to conquer the states. As stated earlier, nobody here outside of hardcore fans knows him at the moment. A title defense (more than likely an optional one that will pose little problem) either in Qld or one of the bigger markets in Sydney or Melbourne being billed as a world title fight will generate a lot of buzz, particularly amongst the Greek community which is huge down here.

All things going well with a few more fights in Oz, he can build a massive profile here and go to the US as a potential star rather than a no-name alphabet title holder.

British promoters/fans would be keen to have him back.

Frank Maloney has a piece of Yuri Romanov. Would be great if someone tried to make Romanov-Katsidis.

Unfortunately there isn't enough money in Australian Boxing (even with a WBO Interim Title) to ensure a good opponent for Katsidis. (I'm sure you've heard how he had to pay for one of his fights out of his own pocket.) Hence his lack of competition to date and his signing to a promomter in the US. As much as it pains me to say it there would be real point in coming back here and fighting a few tomato cans before heading to the States. No one in the States would pay attenion and it would only delay his career...

Fighting in England could be a option, especially if Romanov was on the table...

We are going to miss out on a real talent if he signs in the US. At least if he forces his way into a fight with Freitas or one of the other champs at 135 he will get some much deserved money from the effort he has put in.

I think the US will love his style of fighting and i can see him really going places in the lightweight division in the next few years.

Yeh, if he defends his title in Melb, you could easily fill Vodafone Arena. The Melb Greek community will get right behind him. Just like they did Zambidis (even though he aint Australian).

Zambidis is a monster of a fighter in his chosen field. I always wondered how he would have gone in boxing

And yes, Melbourne's huge Greek community would support him all the way

Zambidis would make a good boxer and had some amature sucsess in Greece, I think he would need to lose a fair bit of weight as he is way to short to be fighting at 154-160.

We are going to miss out on a real talent if he signs in the US.

He has already signed a deal with North East Promotions, an US based promoter.

Well I'd certainly like to see him back in the UK again, very exciting guy. Right now he looks like he could be outboxed, but as mentioned he's still learning. I hope he keeps improving and fights Juan Diaz one day, that could be a corker.

Has anyone heard any rumours as to who he is looking at fighting next, I would love to see him in some big fights at 135.

Matt Zegan - Vegas June 2

Seems like a good solid US debut, If he can manage to stop him it would be impressive. I hope he trains hard for it and can improve his stamina a bit as Zegan seems like a durable guy.

Does seem like a solid US debut. Zegan's a durable, if slightly limited guy with a pretty nice record. A KO would be impressive if he could get it, but I hope he's prepared for the full 12 rounds. Campbell gave him quite a touch up on the Valuev/Barrett undercard but he kept coming for the full 12 rounds and think he'll do the same against Katsidis.

Katsidis has a good chin, He was caught by Earl a little off gaurd after the towel was thrown out. If you want to see his chin tested get hold of his fight with Ranee Ganoy that guy can hit seriously hard and Katsidis didn't flinch.

I agree with Ben, he may not have the best defence at the moment but I wouldn't say he has a bad chin...

He may have a problem down the line if he gets dragged into to many wars though. I guess thats the price you pay for being an "exciting" fighter... I mean look at Gatti now...
