Burgos in coma after title defeat
Mexican flyweight Victor Burgos is in a coma after brain surgery to remove a blood clot.
He suffered the injuries in Saturday's IBF world title fight against undefeated Australian Vic Darchinyan.
Burgos, 32, was stretchered out of the ring and straight to hospital in Los Angeles, where doctors say he is showing positive signs for recovery.
Burgos's promoter Don King said: "He is a brave fighter. Now we need God's help to see him back to health."
An inconsolable Darchinyan said he wanted to visit Burgos in hospital, but his scheduled flight back to Sydney had prevented him from doing so.
"I told the fans there cannot be a celebration of my victory, I don't want it. Everybody is praying for Victor Burgos and we wish him good luck," said Darchinyan.
Burgos's wife, family and friends are at his bedside at the UCLA Medical Center.
