DID HOLMES AND HAGLER usher in The alphabet era ?

Holmes famously gave the Ibf credability with his fight against little Marvis Frazier..... at around the same time Hagler was knocking about with the same bauble. is this where it started to get silly ?

No, it started to get ridiculous long before that. When the WBC formed in teh 1960's it generally followed the WBA's recognition of the "true" world champ. Over time, though, the two bodies started stripping champions and installing their own. The 70's really saw this happen and by the time Holmes and Hagler were on the scene, the alphabet madness was firmly established.

yes but why did the two undisputed kings take on the IBF bauble......was it really necessary. wat did they get out of it?

Holmes vs. Frazier was a 10-round non-title fight.

i see where you got your info on that fight.
but i have a program from the fight and it clearly states
i.b.f. champion holmes defends against marvis frazier.
i do not know if this was sanctioned or not but i was under the assumption
because of this that it was holmes first ibf title defense.

my general point is that this was where the ibf became a force.....id just like to know how and why really..there must be stuff written about its inception.
Absolute undisputed King Marvin Hagler was seduced into the IBf circus for his fight with Wilford Scypion ......i can understand many people thinking the Holmes Frazier fight controversial....but the hagler scypion fight is a bit of a strange one ? i seem to remember at the time they werent even offering Hagler a belt....only a ring ?????
