ian napas post fight interview

in my opinion it summed up why napa is not going anywhere as a pro, yes he is skilled and stylish, he rolls well and is attractive to watch when he lets his fast combos go.

but.......

the guy is a natural flyweight, he looks too soft at anything above that. when he said he does not want to kill himself making flyweight, well, it, in my opinion, shows his lack of ambition. he is a very lucky boy to have had so many opportunities above that weight, why does he not knuckle down and he could be a decent player at fly.

he should try and get down to light fly.

he's too small for bantam and lacks serious pop.

he needs any little thing that will give him an advantage.

when he turned pro they were all saying flyweight was too big for him and it was a shame that we didnt have a british title at light fly which was his weight....
Now he is bantam or whatever it shows he doesnt have the desire to put his body through the weight cutting process that the other guys do...

I thought he looked a bit soft, could he not get down in weight?

Looks like he could to me - He's always at a disadvantage doing it this way.

but so long as the promoter keeps lining napas pockets at this weight then he will carry on, thats now 3 defeats in his last 4 or something similar. he is a lucky young man to be earning such coin.

As he's gotten Older though his body will be too dense for Light Fly.

yes i agree but its plain to see he is 'soft' at fridays weight, he needs to go to fly.

I agree Rhino, but what fights will a promoter be able to get Napa at Fly.

He'll get Chris Edwards, then Dale Robinson, then.... Chris Edwards again, then Dale Robinson again etc.

Will the promoter deliever a World title fight?... Nope. European maybe, the champion doesn't mind travelling- but he looks very good also and if Bernand Imon (very classy fighter) beats him, I don't expect the title to go away from France.

Light Flyweight SHOULD be an option for Napa, even Straw weight - but again, there will be no fights for him.

Look at the struggles it is to get an exciting fighter like Asiku a fight, same with Olusugen and Munyai... Damean Kelly had the same trouble. There is no fighters from the country and because they don't really attract a British crowd it will be hard to secure a big title fight.

Piper was going on about him getting down to light fly and it seems the right choice.
He is undefined around the belly and has no real body defintion.
I agree with the earlier post that he lacks ambition to a degree. It would indictae that he is not willing to eat healthy and train solidly.
Don't get me wrong he is fit undoubtedly but the exra yard is needed.
Get him in with a champ like a Hatton for instance for a 10-12 week training period, even if its only a one off just to see how good he could be.
He doesn't have a knock out punch but he is giving people a run for their money, he can improve I'm sure of it.

He couldn't punch at light-fly or fly either. If he loses the weight he'll lose the strength too. At that size it's not like you can lose weight and develop muscle mass is it? Something has to give. He just lacks power full stop and as someone said, he's had quite a few bites at the cherry now and at the end of the day hasn't really come through.

If he dropped to Light Fly/Fly he would probably have to hit the road for work, he could get some fights in Japan though possibly.

I thought Napa competed well against the Italian, who is a pretty useful champion. The post fight interview was overly negative. Ed Robinson comes across an interviewer who is completely scripted and dwells on the negatives too much.

I agree that Napa would probably be best served boxing at flyweight, but he's probably got options at 8st or 8st 6lbs and the effort it takes him to make flyweight could well take away the enjoyment he gets out of boxing.

Ian may have lost a few recently, but apart from Delroy Spencer they have all been against championship boxers of one degree or another and he hasn't disgraced himself in any of them, far from it IMO.

All in all, i enjoyed the bout and thought Napa did fairly well....you can't win them all.

I never said he would gain muscle mass, I just said he hasn't got any :TU:
If he was fitter, he naturally would lose some wieght and could dance his way to victory, cos he ain't gonna knock them out.
