I saw a bouncer once who had a face of a boxer, flatish nose and the usual marks etc. Well it got me thinking.

Does anyone know of any ex pros who do the doorman jobs after retirement.

I know Ernie Shavers works as a greeter at Yeates in Liverpool (I think).

Jake Lamotta worked as a bouncer occastionally after retirement, now there's a doorman who you wouldn't cross.

I think there have been a few thousand, worldwide, over the years.

Johnny Nelson as a bouncer is somewhat hard to imagine

I recently started working as a private security consultant for a couple of pro sports teams.
Its why I havent been around lately.
Martial Arts background (Judo ) helped me land it though more than boxing.
Ya gotta be able to control , subdue etc. rather then break jaws.

thats one sorry story, i did hear about that last year.

he also dated jodie Marsh she was happy he went away, i think i read he used to beat her too, not sure if its true or not

he was one of John Rushton boys wasnt he? i think he trained out of Armthorpe. i only saw one of his fights, he was a bit of a 'slap' puncher as i remember with no chin.

Never knew Malpass was a bouncer in good old doncaster, just to think, i go round town twice a week, and ive never noticed him.

He isn't any more. From the late 70s until the mid-90s he was a familiar sight on the door in and around Doncaster though. He was one of Martin Kamara's 'firm'.

Yup, place has changed, Thompson and Dixon road (beirut)
have been knocked down for some years now, Greyhounds gone, and houses are there now, Bruce Woodcocks old pub is reopened.

He was never a pro but a mate of mine told me a story about Roy 'Pretty Boy' Shaw, the unlicensed fighter that fought Lenny Mclean.

Shaw used to work the door at a club in Essex years back. My mate said he was at the front of the queue and there was some gobby bloke behind him acting like a idiot. Shaw apparently said 'excuse mate' to my friend and stood him to one side and without breaking a sweat punched this bloke and sparked him. He then moved my mate back into the queue and let him in.

Shaw was truely one of the hardest men in britain in his day,
he started fighting unlicensed at a very late age though, 42 i think,
always had a screw loose.

Lenny Mclean was always a bigger animal if you ask me though,
aboslute brute, his book "the guvnor" is one of the best books
ive ever read.

Both have worked on the door, Mclean often just had to put the word
out he was working there, and no trouble would happen,
whether he was actually there or not.

i used to live down the bottom end near police station, Princes cresent.
