K9 bows out to Brook's disgust

SHEFFIELD'S KELL Brook has lost out on world-wide TV exposure because an American opponent likened to a Pit Bull turned out to be a poodle!
American Cornelius Bundrage - nicknamed K9 - had been offered a match-up with the Hillsborough welterweight as part of the bill on The Contender - a reality US v UK TV competition which will be screened from Newcastle later this month.

Bundrage, 33, decided against Brook, who is unbeaten after 13 fights and is developing a reputation under promoter allegedly's banner and trainer Dave Coldwell's tutelage.

Instead Bundrage is to face older Scottish light middleweight champion Colin McNeil on March 30, instead.

Brook, 20, said: "I was gutted when I found out the fight with K9 was off.

"I had got the go-ahead from Frank and was really looking forward to competing on the Contender programme and getting on the telly. That sort of exposure would have been mind-blowing.

"But K9 ducked out on me - he obviously didn't want to see me put a muzzle on him!"

Brooks hasn't got long to be disappointed though. He has another big show to prepare for.

On April 7, he will be on the Joe Calzaghe undercard in Wales, taking on Gary Young, a 23-year-old southpaw who has 16 wins from 17 fights.

One of those wins was over Sheffield's Danny Thorpe.

"Young's style is that of a puncher boxer, but I will take him out when I go sharpshooting over three or four rounds" said Brook.

"Some people think its a 50-50 fight because of our records but my talent will see me through."

Coldwell added: "Kell has to focus on Young now, Bundrage won't be the last person to dodge Kell if they can."

I dont want to put a dampener on your love for Kell :TU: but K9 will have a harder fight with Mcneil. I think K9 would be too much for Kell. Mcneil is defo a bigger test for the Dog. But looking forward to see if Kell can handle Young. Remember Young was blown out in a round when he went in against Mcneil. That would be an interesting one, Mcneil v Brook :TU:

just from watchin the contender i get the impression that K9 wouldnt bottle fighting Kell brook

im sure there is more to this than meets the eye, or it was never matched in the first place

probably doesnt want to get embarressed by a youngster
who you could consider a novice in the pro's,
maybe its the case, or maybe theres something we dont know,
would rather see this fight than mcneil, thats for sure!

Bundrage is a club fighter but he would most likely rape brook at this point, thats not something I would like to watch...either way, it is as I thought, the better guys from each stable being matched with the weaker of the other, what a tantalising prospect...

I dont know if you have seen K9 outside of the contender,
but he is wild and careless, has poor fundamentals,
and yes would probably at this stage give Kel nightmares,
but doesnt have the skills to "Rape" him, remember
all the editing in the contender makes fighters look
a whole lot better than they are, plus they are only
5 rounders, so fighters go all out, instead of
conserving energy, so dont let it fool you,
but it would be interesting.

Seen Bundrage a few times, never watched the contender. Brook is a novice, and I havent been overly impressed yet, but Bundrage is confirmed ass, perhaps brook might improve in a few fights time by which time my opinion will have changed..but not at this moment

I would have still preferred to have seen Wayne Alexander in there over Colin McNeil.

The records on FW.tv only record recent fights.

K9 would have been too big for Brook - the guy is a natural Middleweight and has fought I believe at Light Heavy.

I THINK thats why its not happening - I don't think either fighter bottled it, maybe someone else behind the back of Kell.

I would rather see Alfonso Gomez vs Brook, than Conception vs Gomez - Conception will have a sizeable size advatange of Gomez.
