Would be quite a good one actually. Gatti would still be a big favourite I guess but he is fading so who knows...

I hope Hatton gets this great opportunity. Some would say he would be in over his head, but I think he has a chance. Finally we will see him step out of Ricky's shadow.

I'd give M Hatton a better chance at winning than Chavez Jr.

Gatti? Is this a joke? Gatti has never beaten a single world class opponent in his whole career. This is a money grubbing fight if true. Ricky is insulting his fans if he takes this fight.

And I maintain he has never beaten a single world class opponent. Leija and Dorin where utterly shot when they fought Gatti and WAY undersized.

It'll be nothing short of a disgrace if Ricky fights Gatti... Gatti was better than he is often given credit for now (anyone saying that he never beat world class fighters is talking out of their arse!) ...but he's had it now and after all the wars he's had I'm disapointed that his people are allowing him to fight on... the human body can only take so much... if Ricky fights Arturo then he'll lose all his remaining credibility for me... and theres not a lot left as it is...

Maybe the title of the thread should be changed to (Matthew) Hatton vs Gatti, to save confusion

I know its matt Hatton but Rickys people have already said that Gatti needs to get past Matt to get at Ricky, = that they still want the fight for Ricky. Obviously if Gatti beats Matt (which he should do even now) then the fight will be built up as Ricky wanting revenge for Gatti beating his brother etc... since when does beating domestic level Matt Hatton qualifiy Gatti as good enough to fight Ricky whose supposed to want to fight the best out there???....

Iono, I wouldnt quite count Gatti out. He's bounced back after losses before and we've all wrote his 'obituary' before. He's a tough guy, and can regroup. Its sad but alot of people not too long before the Baldomir loss would have been talking up a Gatti-Hatton match as a genuine fight.

But Hatton needs to commit himself more, take McCullough's advice, and quit drinking and partying as much as he's doing---he's looked like shit the last few times out.

Gatti's lost his punch resistance and his stamina and if he carries on fighting he's going to end up like Bobby Chacon I'm afraid... the fact that his trainer Buddy Mcgirt has jumped ship says a lot, ....he's probably told Gatti to quit and doesnt want to be involved with him carrying on....

Gatti beat Tracy Patterson in two great fights. (I thought Patterson won the first) THP was world class, a great little fighter. And the fights were at 130.

Have you seen these fights?

I think Gatti is fading for sure, but I do think Silkov etc might be writing him off vs all world class fighters maybe a little soon.

Up untill 3 fights ago no-one was calling Gatti shot. He then loses to Floyd Mayweather, gets anhilated but then so would a lot of fighters. He then does okay (not great but okay) beating up reliable Thomas Dammgaard. He then loses a brave effort vs Baldomir, in a fight in which I think (even if I am alone) he showed at times he had the the beating of him.

However, even if you think Baldomir will beat him 10 times out of 10 - the fact is Gatti is in a bit of a quandry as far as his career is concerned. He says he cannot make 10 stone, but he is a very small 10 stone 7. He'd probably be best suited for a 10 stone 3/10 stone 4 weight class. He was significantly out sized vs Baldomir, and would be vs the likes of Margarito etc. However, that doesn't mean he still will not be competitive against smaller guys without the skills of Mayweather - and RICKY falls into that category.

For me, Hatton vs Gatti was an exciting pick em fight back in 2005 - not really that much to suggest anything else in 2007 - although admittedly the pendulum is swinging Hatton's way with each month.

I do think Gatti probably needs an win before the match could be seriously considered - but if say Gatti beats Ndou at Welter - then why not Hatton vs Gatti at 147 after Castillo.

He could probably bring out another brave effort against Ricky and what with Ricky being so poor recently it could be a tough fight still but I'm talking from the perspective that Gatti has taken enough punishment now and should quit... Chacon carried on fighting with some success right into his late 30s but now has trouble remembering where he lives...
